I am currently having an operating system error on my laptop and have been trying to backup the data on its hard drive before applying a possible fix. Several attempts to do backups have been blocked, but a recent attempt seems to have isolated the issue as being the "AppData" folder in the drive. If I can copy the AppData folder from the drive onto an external storage device, I can try to correct the problem, and would like to ask how such a duplication can be done.

You can use backup the whole drive BUT sometimes restore them all would be a challenge. My suggestion to clone the whole drive using many free software around such as

It will give use same contents as old drive.

Hello @Banhien -- forgive the slow response; oddly, I didn't get an E-mail letting me know there had been a reply on this topic.

I had asked about a disk cloning on one of the other two topics linked in the original post, but no one responded; I ended up going to another online forum to ask the question, but was told that cloning the drive would copy the registration error that is causing the problem. You are welcome to look at the other topics if you might have an idea of what would work best.

Thanks for replying -- I hope you'll continue to help me out!

Weird -- I finally got a message in my E-mail inbox yesterday alerting me to your reply...THREE DAYS after you left it. I had hoped that the message would be for a more recent reply.

Again, to clarify, I'm looking to copy the "AppData" folder and the contents therein onto external storage as a backup, hopefully bypassing the "administrator permission" error in so doing; if anyone has any suggestions, I'd like to see your reply.

Just making a fresh post to keep the topic open -- I'm still having some issues, so feel free to leave a comment if:

  • you know how to copy a hard drive's "AppData" folder without getting an "administrator permission" error

  • you can recommend a successful means to back up the contents of a hard drive without getting an "administrator permission" error

  • you may know of a means to correct the "Automatic Repair" reboot loop issue, with or without the need to back up the hard drive beforehand (if necessary)

Any helpful replies are appreciated -- thanks in advance

Sorry to have to do this so frequently, but I want to make sure the topic isn't locked out for inactivity; again, if anyone has an explanation for what is causing the issue or what can be done to correct it, you are welcome to leave a reply.

Thanks again in advance
