Need to update BIOS on an unsupported HP laptop

Apparently my DV7T-3000 (NQ339AV) is no longer supported by HP. I would like this confirmed.

As I was updating my Windows 10 installation with various security updates, one in particular (KB5012170) will not update and fails every time with failure code 0x800F0922 . I've tried everything suggested by Microsoft except one suggestion: They say to update the BIOS but I can't because HP states my laptop is now unsupported (it's older than 10 years old but still runs great).

Has anyone else encountered this particular failure and if yes, what did you do to get it to installed? Concerning the update of my BIOS, is there anyway to do this now that my laptop is apparently not supported by HP anymore? Any help or suggestions appreciated.

Hi:

I got the same error on a different PC, and it is possible that the update is not applicable, nor would a BIOS update fix it.

Your PC does not support secure boot which is what Microsoft indicates the update is for.

I ran the Microsoft Hide Windows Update utility that I zipped up and attached below to prevent the update from showing up and failing to install.

I don't recommend updating the BIOS when running on an unsupported operating system.

The BIOS file was written to be run on Windows 7.

It may work fine on W10, but if not, you now have an expensive paperweight.

However, if you are a gambling person you can get the last BIOS update HP released for your notebook from this reputable 3rd party website at the link below.

 Thanks for the info. I'm running version F.1D now. So I guess I just need to hide this update so it doesn't nag in the future, is that correct?

W10 runs fine on this old dog and I haven't had any issues updating until this update came along.

You're very welcome.

Yes, run the utility.

It will find the update.

Check the box to hide the update.

The utility will run again and report the problem is 'Fixed.'

Close out of the update, restart the PC and if the update is still showing up, click on it to install it and it should disappear.
