The Shop for Supplies program (hpqDTSS.exe) is not working how do I uninstall it?

hpqDTSS is a component process belonging to HP Digital Sending Software (DSS) or related HP printer imaging utilities. To safely and completely remove it from your Windows system, you need to uninstall the parent HP software suite and clean up residual tasks.  I have no idea what the parent app is.  

copy and paste the following into the administrator command prompt

wmic process where name="hpqdtss.exe" get name, parentprocessid, executablepath

--or if the above does not work user powershell--

Get-CimInstance Win32_Process -Filter "Name = 'hpqdtss.exe'" | Select-Object Name, ParentProcessId, Path

I assume it is an annoying popup.  Bring up the windows task manager and look in startup apps for an app with that name.  Disable it.

Neither command path worked! Although I probably did not enter them correctly as I am not very familiar with command prompt

If your Get-CimInstance query didn't return any data, it typically means the process hpqdtss.exe is currently not running, or it might have a slightly different spelling.hpqdtss.exe belongs to HP Digital Imaging Monitor (a part of older HP printer software suites and HP Hewlett-Packard drivers). If the process is stubborn, returning, or throwing errors on startup, you can completely terminate and eliminate it using the following steps:

1. Force Kill the Process (If Running)

If it ever spawns again or is running under a hidden session, you can bypass WMI filters and kill it directly by its exact image name in PowerShell (run as Administrator):

Stop-Process -Name "hpqdtss" -Force -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue

2. Disable it from Windows Startup

hpqdtss.exe usually relies on a startup registry entry or shortcut rather than a parent process.

• Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
• Navigate to the Startup apps tab (or Startup tab).
• Look for HP Digital Imaging Monitor or any entry pointing to hpqdtss.exe.
• Right-click it and select Disable.

Alternatively, you can manually delete its startup entry via File Explorer:

1. Press Win + R, type %appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup and press Enter.
2. Look for any HP printer shortcuts here and delete them.

3. Uninstall the Associated HP Software Suite

The safest way to get rid of the executable permanently without breaking system files is to uninstall the legacy HP suite driving it:

1. Press Win + R, type appwiz.cpl and hit Enter.
2. Look through the list for items named HP Digital Imaging, HP Photosmart Essential, HP Solution Center, or HP Printer Software.
3. Click Uninstall and complete the prompt wizard.

4. Locate and Wipe the Remnants

If the software is already uninstalled but hpqdtss.exe is still lingering on your hard drive, you can wipe its physical file location:

# Search your drive to find where the file is hiding
Get-ChildItem -Path "C:\Program Files*" -Filter "hpqdtss.exe" -Recurize -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue | Select-Object FullName

Once you find the directory (usually under C:\Program Files\HP\...), you can delete the enclosing folder to wipe the file permanently.

Thank you, but it is not running, so there is no need to stop it.

When I run it I get this screen

When I copied and pasted "wmic process where name="hpqdtss.exe" get name, parentprocessid, executablepath" into powershell admin I got this:

The program is in "Windows (C) > Program Files > HP > HP ENVY 4500 series > Bin" on my computer.

I could simply delete it and its associated library file hpDTSSUI.dll, but I don't want to do that if it is simply a matter of repairing or replacing it, and I don't want to cause problems with the rest of my HP printer software which is functioning fine.

Any further help or advice is most welcome.

wmic is used in windows 10 and early window 11 releases.  Newer windows 11 releases removed wmic

If you use powershell, do not use wmic

In any event the parent is the Envy 4500 driver and one problem is this site does not exist

The other problem is there is newer software:  32.4.115 dated Jan 6. 2025

Uninstall the envy 4500 using windows uninstall then put this in

Question: have you been using the new HP App?

It should have remove the old Envy 4500 driver.  if you have never used it then that might be why the old software was left.  I suspect the problem is the firmware.  Be sure to update the firmware

let me know if the problem occurs with the new software and firmware so I can advise admin of the problem.

I am using windows 10, so that is not the problem with wmic

I have now uninstalled my Envy 4500 and re-installed it using the the link you provided

I tried to install the firmware update but the status showed as "Up to date"

The shop for supplies still tries to access https://www.hp.com/post-embed,client=KarnakSW&swversion=032.003.198.49673 which as you say does not exist.
