Hi,
My Victus 16 with RTX 4070 running Windows 11 will only charge when powered off. I deleted both of the Battery drivers in the Device Manager and did a hard reset. Neither fixed the issue. I checked if a new BIOS update is available, and the BIOS is up to date.
When powered off, the battery charges fine.
How do I fix this issue?

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
If your laptop only charges when powered off, it’s likely a power management or firmware-level issue. Thanks for explaining the steps you’ve already taken—that helps narrow things down.
Here’s a structured approach to help resolve it:
1. Update Chipset and Power Management Drivers
Even if the BIOS is current, outdated chipset or ACPI drivers can interfere with charging behavior:
- Visit the HP Victus 16-r0000 driver page.
- Download and install the latest Intel Chipset Driver and Intel Dynamic Tuning Driver.
- Restart the system after installation.
2. Disable Fast Startup
Fast Startup can sometimes prevent proper initialization of charging components:
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
- Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
- Uncheck Turn on fast startup and save changes.
- Restart the laptop and test charging while powered on.
3. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
This will help rule out hardware faults:
- Turn off the laptop and press F2 repeatedly at startup to enter HP UEFI Diagnostics.
- Run the Battery Test and AC Adapter Test under Component Tests.
- Note any warnings or failures.
4. Reset Embedded Controller (EC)
You’ve done a hard reset, but it’s worth confirming the EC reset:
- Shut down the laptop.
- Disconnect the charger and remove any external devices.
- Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
- Reconnect the charger and power on.
5. Test with a Different HP Charger
If available, try using a compatible HP charger to rule out adapter-related issues. Some charging anomalies can stem from inconsistent power delivery.
Let me know how it goes—I can help you interpret any test results or guide you further.
