Hello @lorne3,
Thank you for the quick reply!
Seeing how the updated came out only a few days ago, you may consider allowing some time for the program to update accordingly. If you believe that the program is not working as it should, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling the HP Support Assistant. You can use this document to help you, if needed: HP PCs - Troubleshooting HP Support Assistant (Windows 10)
I hope this helps.

Yes, that hides the issue, but doesn't fix the fact that :
1. The hp support site is showing a driver that is no longer the most current
AND
2. The support system says i have a driver needing updating when in fact i have installed a newer version!

Re. most current drivers on support site: Ok, but you must have received a lot of inquiries needlessly if this issue arose due to the Windows 10 Anniversary Update.
Re. Support assistant advising to update a driver based only on the version number being different between my computer and the website is just wrong. The logarithm should prioritize by version number.

Hello @lorne3,
Try uninstalling the driver, then restart the notebook. If you are still having an issue after that, then try restoring the BIOS, using the following document:

Reinstall Bios and uninstal/reinstal changed nothing
I have read there are a lot of conflict problems with the Intel Dynamic Thermal Platform
Can you assure me that there is MS or HP software that is controlling the fan, or if in fact the error message is meaningless and the Intel program is in fact operating?
08-05-2016 12:54 PM
Hello @lorne3,
I do not, and have not been able to find much information on the error message, so I am unable to assure any information. To my knowledge, the fan is controlled by the BIOS, unless you are using a 3rd party program in the Operating System. Is the error message causing any other issues to the notebook? If not, then it should be fine. However, you may consider setting up a restore point, if you are not sure.

Well, if the BIOS is controlling the fan, then i should have no problems.
Intel's DPTF errors out at some point but I'm not sure where, it could actually be activated but failed in some routine after activation. I know this driver is installed by the OEM (not Intel) for many Intel chip sets and causes no end of confusion for purchasers of HP, Dell, Asus etc.
Is there some diagnostic to run to see if "some" driver is powering the fan?
