i updated my bios over the weekend and went to play my usual games. the graphic were terrible and my frames per second were cut in half.  I opened task managed and noticed that not only had my dedicated vram been lowered from 1gb to 256mb, but also that the vega 8 graphics core wasnt even using the shared memory is should when the dedicated vram is in full use.

@Jhladik

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

VRAM is system managed and we cannot increase or decrease the VRAM. Also, the computer you've is not designed for gaming.

If the information I've provided was helpful, give us some reinforcement by clicking the Accepted Solution and Kudos buttons, that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Thanks!

Have a great day!

Before the bios update i had 1gb vram and now i dont so instead of telling me lies about how hp cant control vram clearly you can. And by the way you dont need a gaming laptop to play games. Clearly hp would like me to spend more money and buy a new laptop instead of let my use MY laptop the way i want. I just want a way  to unlock my advanced settings in the bios menu like nearly every other brand lets you do.

@Jhladik Perhaps, I can clarify what betty boop here was attempting to convey 😉

The laptop most definitely can be used to play basic games, some high end games with low resolution as well, sure, I do that myself on a non-gaming laptop, so I know exactly what you mean, however, these laptops are designed for every computing, not gaming! it's like this, you can only go so far in a race on a Prius vs a Bugatti, and you cannot win the race!

That out of the way, since the issue began after a BIOS update, I suggest we revert to an older version that didn't have this issue, thus resolving the error:

Click here to perform a hard reset on your device

If the issue persists, after the above steps, try the below:

  1. Turn off the notebook.

  2. Plug the notebook into a power source using the power adapter.

  3. With the notebook off, press and hold the Windows logo key  and the B key at the same time.

       NOTE:

On some notebook models, it might be necessary to press and hold the Windows logo key  and the V key.

  4. While pressing those keys, press and hold the Power button on the computer for 2 to 3 seconds, and then release the Power button but continue to hold the Windows logo key  and the B or V key until the HP BIOS update screen displays or you hear a beeping sound (usually 8 beeps).

The HP BIOS Update screen displays, and the BIOS update begins automatically. This might take several minutes, and you might hear additional beeping sounds.

    • If the HP BIOS Update screen does not display, repeat the previous steps. If the issue persists after repeating the steps, skip to the next step to Download a replacement BIOS file.

    • If the Power light turns off, the notebook has turned off because the Power button was held too long. Repeat the previous steps, making sure to hold the Power button for 2 to 3 seconds only.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE STEPS AND INSTRUCTIONS.

(By the end of this article all the issues should be resolved)

Also, the VRAM editing options are locked in all HP products, the advanced options menu is inaccessible as changes to the same may render the device unstable.

Let me know how that pans out,

I have tried to revert back to a bios version as early as f.03 and it will not let me. I am stuck on f.22.

@Jhladik If that doesn't work, it's possible the current BIOS is flash and I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options, follow the below steps to get started:

1) Click on this link - http://www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Click on Sign-in or select the product using the below step:

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!

Also, if you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty, if yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from,

here's how private messages work: Click here for details.

If you wish to thank me for my efforts, you could click on "Accept as solution" on my post as the solution should help others too.
