Hi. I have a golden oldie of a laptop here I'm trying to breathe new life into. OS is Windows 7, 32-bit.
I tried following the solution given in the HP forum thread below, but the guy's OneDrive link doesn't work anymore. I can't seem to be able to PM him so I'm making this thread in hopes of somebody sharing the same driver file Paul_Tikkanen once uploaded.

Hi:
See if this works...
Download and save, but do not run this graphics driver.
Download and install this free file utility. The 1st one at the top of the page is for 32 bit.
After you install 7-Zip, right click on the driver file you saved.
Select 7-Zip from the list of items on the menu.
Have 7-Zip Extract to: and let it extract the file into its folder name.
Once that is done, go to the device manager.
Click to expand the display adapters device manager category.
Click on the standard vga adapter listed there. It might also be elsewhere in the device manager labeled as a Video Controller.
Anyway, click on the one you see.
Click on the driver tab. Click on Update Driver.
Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and then at the bottom of that window, select the Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
Click on Have disk and browse to the driver folder that 7-Zip created>Win2000>ialmnt5 setup information file, click Next, and the driver should install.
Then restart the PC and the graphics should be working, but without Aero effects, since that ancient GPU is not Windows aero capable.

Haha, the man himself. 😁
Actually, there are two entries in Device Manager
One under Other Devices > Video Controller
And another under Display Cards > Standard VGA Display Card.
(I double checked and both entries share the same Hardware ID interestingly enough)
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_3582&SUBSYS_3080103C&REV_02
Which entry should I install the driver to? Both?

I'm surprised that didn't work.
OK, try this...Repeat the driver install steps, but this time if there is a list of Intel graphics adapters listed when you click on Have disk and you browse to the ialmnt5 setup information file, select this one from the list, and click next...select the one I highlighted in red.

I don't get it.
OK, the driver on my Skydrive folder doesn't exist on Intel's website anymore, so here is the link to my skydrive folder.

The only suggestion I can offer would be to try that driver since it worked for the other person...
You want the file labeled Intel 82865G Driver (Vista-Win7).

Well, it installed something called
Intel(R) 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller (Microsoft Corporation - XDDM)
and hasn't asked for a reboot.
I'll give it a few spins on youtube videos etc tomorrow and report back.

That's good news.
I noticed that driver is a newer driver than the one I originally gave you.
It was a beta driver that Intel developed for Vista.
They removed it from their website once Microsoft decided only the graphics adapters for the 945 chipsets and newer would be supported for Vista.
