Pavilion 3165NGW
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Ever since I have updated my windows 10 in Jan 2019 my Brightness has not been working. I have tried the below method with no success.

  1. Go to Start Menu > Search and type "Device Manager" and then launch the Device Manager app
  2. Scroll down to the Display Adapters entry in the device list and expand the option. Right-click on the installed display drivers, and choose Update Driver Software from the context menu.
  3. In the ensuing interface menu, choose Browse my computer for driver software.
  4. Then choose the option "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer"
  5. In the next screen, select Microsoft Basic Display Adapter from the list under Show compatible hardware section. Then hit Next to continue.
  6. Windows should now install the selected driver and the display drive

The last step, #5, is where it stops for me. Mine does not say select "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter." It only says  select "Intel(R) HD Graphics 520." Even when I did "Select Update Driver Software" under "Display Adapters"  in "Device Manager" there was no other options to choose from. The only one under it is the "Intel(R) HD Graphics 520"

Thank you!

Hi:

See my knowledgebase article at the link below for how to manually update the Intel graphics adapter to the latest driver version directly from Intel...

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebooks-Knowledge-Base/Updating-the-Latest-HD-Graphics-Driver-from-I...

You posted that you are running W10 32 bit, but that can't be right since there are no 32 bit W10 graphics drivers for the Intel HD 520 graphics.

Thank you! I'll look at it when I get home

Also Idk what windows 10 I am using so I just picked the top one. I do know that mine says "Windows 10, version 1909 (2). This is my actual system. It wasn't on there to choose from so I added it here." which I posted at the top of my post

You're very welcome.

You are at the most recent version of W10 (v1909).

The driver is from a few days ago, so it should work with v1909.

That may be why Intel just released it.

@Paul_Tikkanen idk which one to click. I think the last one but I'm not sure

Hi:

My knowledgebase article tells you which driver file to download...the zip file...

I thought that was the one but I wanted to make sure before I went clicking anything. I am not good at any of this. Thank you  so much and I really greatly appreciate your patience. I'll probably have more questions before I get through this

You're very welcome.

Read my instructions thoroughly.  I wrote them as plainly as I could.

It shouldn't take you more than a few minutes to do the update.

Ok I downloaded the zip file. I got as far as the browse but can't find the unzipped folder

(Click on Have Disk, and browse to the unzipped graphics driver folder>Graphics>iigd_dch (setup information file), click Next, and the driver should install.)

Yeah they are pretty simple to follow for an idiot like me. I just don't want to mess my computer up by doing something wrong
