HP ProBook 450 G5
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Since I updated to the latest windows os, my brightness keys don't work.

I've tried all the other methods such as hotkey support (that won't install), updating drivers and checking to see if the Generic PnP monitor is disabled but they don't solve my problem.

So, if anyone has any idea on how to fix this that would be great.

Thanks.

Since HP won't help I found my own solution:

Go to C:\SWSETUP\APP\Applications\HP\HPHotkeyS_SS9NB2\6.2.40.1\src in file explorer

(that's where mine is)

Start the setup and wait for it to finish, which then you'll have to restart your computer.

I don't know if it started to work after the restart but I went back into my program files (x86) on my c drive went into hp and hotkey support was one of the options.

At this point I didn't know what to do so I opened all the applications in the hotkey support folder and it worked after that.

I don't know if this can help anyone but thats what I did and it works now.

Hi Ethieona02, thanks for sharing your fix. I tried, but somehow I couldn't find the path you're refering to. I found an alternative solution though that seems more straightforward. Since sharing is caring:

I went to the HP support forum (https://support.hp.com). I clicked 'software and drivers', choose my device type and then simply entered my serial number (don't bother trying the piece of software that will detect your device for you: it didn't work for me). The serial numer is usually found on a sticker on the bottom or back of your device. Against intuïtion, you'll find 'HP hotkey support' under 'Software Solutions'. For me that driver turned out to be just that: a solution. All function keys now work  again.

Some context: my FN / function keys stopped working after windows 10 update 1803, which also disabled my display driver (simply update through device manager - which didn't work for the FN keys). I have a HP Probook 450 G5.

I should have added a disclaimer saying this is a solution if none of the other solutions in the forum worked. I was aware of this myself but because I had only recently bought my probook it came with hotkey support already on it though the program had not installed leading to my fix. But still, thanks for the post hopefully this also helps someone that's having this issue.

I encountered this same issue on my HP Probook 450 G5.

There is a customer support advisory on the HP Customer Support website:  "Advisory: HP EliteBook, ProBook and ZBook PCs - Hotkeys Stop Working After Windows Update to RS4".

I was able to resolve the issue by installing the following driver SP88033 File Download which is:

HP Hotkey Support
Version: 6.2.44.1
Revision: A

The full customer advisory can be found at this link:
