Hi @LukeB22,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
I understand that you are having issues with the camera.
If your HP Envy Laptop 17-da0013dx's webcam isn't working and you don't have a physical kill switch or F13 button, here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow:
1. Check Webcam Privacy Settings
Open Privacy Settings:
- Go to Settings > Privacy > Camera.
- Make sure that camera access is allowed for apps and that the app you’re using has permission to access the camera.
Check Device Manager:
- Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Imaging Devices section and locate your webcam.
- Right-click on the webcam and select Enable if it's disabled. If it’s already enabled, you can also choose Update Driver to ensure you have the latest drivers.
2. Check for Driver Issues
Update Webcam Driver:
- In Device Manager, right-click your webcam under Imaging Devices and select Update Driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
Reinstall Webcam Driver:
- If updating doesn’t work, right-click the webcam in Device Manager and select Uninstall device. Restart your laptop, and Windows should automatically reinstall the webcam driver.
3. Check for Camera App Issues
Test with Different Apps:
- Try using the camera with different applications like the built-in Camera app, Zoom, or Microsoft Teams to see if the issue is app-specific.
Reset the Camera App:
- Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
- Find the Camera app, select it, and choose Advanced options.
- Click Reset to reset the Camera app.
4. Check BIOS Settings
Access BIOS:
- Restart your laptop and press F10 (or the key specified for BIOS access) as soon as the HP logo appears.
Check Webcam Settings:
- In BIOS, navigate to System Configuration > Device Configuration.
- Ensure that the webcam is enabled. Save changes and exit BIOS.
5. Run HP Support Diagnostics
Use HP Support Assistant:
- Open the HP Support Assistant application from your laptop.
- Go to Diagnostics and run a test for the camera.
HP PC Hardware Diagnostics:
- You can also access HP PC Hardware Diagnostics by pressing F2 during startup.
6. Update Windows
- Check for Windows Updates:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.
- Install any available updates, as they may include fixes for hardware issues.
7. Check for Physical Issues
Inspect the Webcam:
- Ensure that nothing is physically obstructing or covering the webcam.
Test with External Webcam:
- If possible, connect an external webcam to see if it works, which can help determine if the issue is with the built-in webcam or a software-related problem.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, there could be a hardware problem with the webcam itself. In that case, contacting HP Support would be advisable.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
