I'm glad I could be of at least some help.

But don't get your hopes up for HP releasing a driver anytime soon; they suck at driver support.

Two months passed! Can anyone re-visit my problem and advise if it can be fixed? Thanks.

I've searched for a fix for this problem ever since I installed Windows 8. Finally i found this:

When using AMD reference drivers the following fix worked on my Envy 15: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-hardware/brightness-control-does-not-wor...

It involves changing the registry value KMD_EnableBrightnessInterface2 to 0 which is trivial but it seems no HP technician in the world managed to figure it out.

I have the problem where changing the brightness has no effect (ie - the brightness scroll bars move, but brightness doesn't change). I know some people have the issue that there is no option to change the brightness at all. This is another issue. I have an HP Envy 15t-3200 laptop.

This is what fixed it for me, described in this website (http://adrynalyne.blogspot.com/2012/10/fix-brightness-control-for-windows-8.html) posted earlier in this thread. It was a much simpler procedure.

- Open the registry editor (regedit.exe) and find the FeatureTestControl value. Mine was located here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0000

- Note the original value just in case you need to set it back (my original value was 0000f000)

- Set it to 0000ffff (if this doesn't work, try 0000f940)

- Reboot

And that's it. I didn't need to uninstall drivers or anything. I did however have the latest drivers installed from Intel. If this doesn't work, try installing the latest Intel drivers either from Intel or from HP and set the key again.

I think this is a general issue with the Intel HD graphics drivers, for those who have switchable AMD graphics. There are a lot of people with other laptop brands with the same problem.

I could not find "KMD_EnableBrightnesslf2 & KMD_EnableBrightnessInterface2" under the location "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0001" in my computer. Maybe it is valid for ASUS only!

Excellent tip. Setting for ffff enabled the feature slider bar again but did not actually affect the screen brightness level when it incremented or decremented. f940 worked for both.  Kudos on the great find!

Alright q_hung, give me an update on your current problem. What's still not working? You still can't adjust the brightness?

As there is no driver update for Windows 8/8.1 made by Hp for my laptop model, I recovered my PC back to Windows 7 in order to control the screen brightness!

My HP Envy 17T 3200 CTO just got upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10. First issue was the brightness display then i clean install still problem persist. Last solution came to my mind is to install latest generic drivers from windows update still didn't work. I found a forum discussing about registry issue and i followed the steps.. Win 10 s now flawlessly working on my 3year old laptop with all features working such as WiDi, Bluetooth, Brightness Buttons and volume control via beats audio panel. 🙂

What steps have did you use/follow to modify or repair your registry? I upgraded from Windows 8.1 pro and have the same issue with my brightness buttons not working now.
