I posted the step by step guide here: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2748304/amd-intel-enduro-laptop-brightness-fix-win.html but if you are familiar with Registry just look for FeatureTestControl and see if the value is using f840 or f940 and replace it with ffff then reboot. should work now. But if you still experience same issue try to follow the steps on that post. 🙂 Cheers!

i tried this, looked for FeatureTestControl and the it can't be found in Registry. Does that sound right?
I am so frustrated with all the issues I am experiencing since the upgrade to win10, i am about ready to re-install win7 and be done with it.

I am in the same boat as yourself. I would love it wo work with Windows 10 But as you I can't get it to turn the Brightness control down at all. There must be something that we can do Or get help with from HP Surport But as yet nothing at all from them as yet!

If you will allow me to help you and connect to your laptop via team viewer i can do it. There should be no problem following those steps as long as you are using the latest generic driver from amd and the later catalyst control center.

I'm having the same thing I can't find FeatureTestControl when I upgraded to Windows 10 However it was in with Windows 7.
Any idears welcome 🙂
I think HP should maybe have an update for this problem as mine is only 3 years old and was not a cheap laptop.
Regards Nick.

Hi bsshpenvy,
I upgraded my pc from Windows 7 to Windows 10 two days ago and again the problem of unable to change screen brightness appeared! I spent for two days for searching, installing several Intel graphic adapters and all of my efforts were unsuccessful. I intended to go back to Windows 7 again, but I remembered this thread and found your post here. Tried it and it worked!!!
Finally, there is a solution that works for this model of computer. I do not know how to express my appreciation to your contribution to the forum, HP laptop users!

System Specs that concerns the issue:
OS: Windows 10
GPU 1: AMD HD 7850M – Latest Driver from AMD
GPU 2: Intel HD 4000 – Latest Driver from Intel
Things to check before applying the fix:
Should be using the latest driver from AMD and Intel. Check your adapter if it is displayed as generic name or exact series number. Example “7800M” instead of “7850M”. Reason is that this fix won’t work if you are using the old driver from HP. It will only work if you are using the new driver 15.7.1 from AMD.
Fix step by step
Step 1:
Press Windows Key + R and type regedit then hit enter.
Step 2: Press Ctrl + F then find FeatureTestControl. If your value is set to something f840 or f940 change it to ffff. To do this right click on “FeatureTestControl” and hit Modify then typed in “ffff” on value data then hit OK.
Step 3: Still on registry select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > ControlSet002 > Control > Class > {4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} > 0001. On the right pane select again “FeatureTestControl” modify value data to “ffff” then hit OK.
Step 4: Still on registry select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > Select make sure “Current” stays at 1.
Step 5: Restart your system and voila! Brightness is now working on your Win 10 System!
Additional Notes: I am assuming this might also work on other system using older graphics card under HD 5xxx, HD 6xxxx, HD 7xxx series that does not support official driver from manufacturer for Windows 10. FYI This fix will only work for generic driver fro AMD + Intel Graphics card.

OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I have an HP Envy 15-3040nr and since updating to Windows 10 on a clean SSD I had nothing but issues trying to get my display drivers working again.
After finally getting both the AMD and Intel drivers working I was having the same brightness issue as everyone here.
Every forum post I found just suggests to update the Intel HD Graphics driver and mine was already up to date.
I trolled the internet for hours before finding this thread, and your solution WORKED!!!!
Thank you thank you thank you thank you... my laptop can finally be used as a LAPTOP without the charger again! Windows 10 has even extended my battery life. <333 100 kisses
