The one that is giving me problem is the one I'm trying to connect using an adapter USB-C to HDMI. I also tested with another adapter of the same kind and received the same results, so I know the problem is either the port or the graphic card.

USB-C on that model does not carry video out. It is USB only via a USB-C style port.

You should be able to get 2 monitors using both HDMI and the Mini-DP port though with mDP to HDMI adapter.

@alecav1974

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂

I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.

As I understand you need assistance in connecting two monitors to your laptop,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Have you checked your product specifications and ensure your graphics card supports more than one external monitor setup?

While you respond to that, here's what you need to know:

Usually, laptops have the function to connect one additional monitor to the existing internal display and here's everything you need to know about connecting an additional monitor:

Also, did you check if all the ports work fine when used individually? please get back to me with the details.

Let me know how that pans out

Thank you very much for your response!

Laptop model: HP Spectre x360 Convertible

Monitors Model: HP N27Oh

Here's the laptop serial number: [removed]

Here's the graphic card model: Intel(R) HD Graphics 520

As you can see, it all is HP, so compatibility among the devices should not be an issue.

To answer your questions:

1. I have tried to find out if the graphic card supports two monitors, but I couldn't. The laptop is fairly new and has one HDMI, two standard USB ports, plus an USB-C, and a miniDP. They all are enabled.

2. So far I checked hardware/port drivers and all are up-to-date and working.

The monitors work fine since I tested both: I switched cables and ports. I connected one using the straight forward HDMI connection and works just fine. The one that is giving me problem is the one I'm trying to connect using an adapter USB-C to HDMI. I also tested with another adapter of the same kind and received the same results, so I know the problem is either the port or the graphic card.

I ordered an adapter miniDP to HDMI and I'll test it on Monday. If it doesn't work, then most likely the problem is the graphic card.

Any other settings I should check?

Thank you very much for the information you provided. I just received the new adapter and connected my two monitors: one through HDMI and the other through miniDP. They are both working great!

Thank you for the information on connecting two monitors to the HP Spectre X360 15-ap012dx. I was experiencing the same issues with the USB-C port. I have found that using the HDMI-HDMI and the Mini-DP to HDMI works great. I add in a HDMI 3 to 1 switch that enabled me to have the two monitors on the one laptop and share one of these monitors with a second laptop. It does require more cables but found this to be a great resolution based on the Mini-DP to HDMI cables I found being short and needing a HDMI to HDMI cable anyway.
