Hi,
Sorry, I assumed you could see the model on my profile.
Product ID: 7K837EA#ABU
Model Number: HP Omen 17-cm2000na
I've already tried the screen brightness hotkeys Fn+F2 & Fn+F3, which have no effect when in UEFI/BIOS or Safe Mode & WinPE. I read somewhere (on this forum I think) that is the case with some models.
Just a quick side question:
If I were to do a BIOS reset (to factory defaults), would it have any adverse effect on the new CA2023 certificates? They have all been successfully updated - although I am still seeing 1796 events, SBAT errors, which I think is to do with updating the dbx database (Unknown HResult Error code: 0x800700c1).
Note that I haven't changed ANY other settings in the BIOS apart from the Hybrid/RTX 4070 only.

Hi @JayDub32370,
Thank you for your response.
BIOS Reset and CA2023 Certificates:
Resetting the BIOS Setup Default settings to factory defaults is safe and will not corrupt or roll back your CA2023 or Secure Boot dbx databases, as these are protected variables.
- Action: To safely restore defaults without losing secure keys, access the BIOS menu (typically by pressing Esc then F10 during startup), press F9 to load setup defaults, and press F10 to save and exit.
SBAT Errors & Event 1796 (Error 0x800700c1):
The Event 1796 error (Unknown HResult Error code: 0x800700c1) is a widely documented issue in which Windows Update fails to properly execute or apply the latest Secure Boot DBX or SBAT updates.
- Cause: The error 0x800700c1 denotes an execution failure, usually where Windows cannot communicate properly with the firmware for these variables.
- Troubleshooting: This error is primarily a non-critical communication mismatch and rarely affects daily booting. You can attempt to resolve it by downloading and reflashing the latest firmware package via the Official HP® Support page or, if that fails, resetting Secure Boot Keys to factory defaults in your BIOS security settings.
I hope this will help.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi,
Ok, thanks. I think I'll wait for a known fix. AFAIK, it only initiates the transfer of old certificates (CA 2011) to the revoked list (dbx) which is not a high priority for me ATM. The vulnerabilities theirin are only exploitable by some one having physical access to the PC, again, AFAIK.
Any further news on the display brightness? The link previously supplied was irrelevant, I get the issue in the BIOS/UEFI settings.
For now, I've gone back to the RTX 4070 only as the issues I was having with it (TDR errors) seem to have been resolved with DDU & a clean driver install.
All the same, I would like to know why the hybrid graphics is so much dimmer and how (if possible) to fix it. I tried updating the Intel UHD graphics driver from Intel's website, but that just seemed to install a load of "bloat" and refused to update the driver beyond 31.0.101.4502, which is the version recommended by the HP support page.
I have updated the UEFI/BIOS to F.15 Dec 2025 (needed that for the CA 2023 updates); there's a newer version (F.16 Rev A May 2026), but the support page says "Detection was successful but you don't need any new software or drivers at this time"
Any further suggestions? It's not urgent now, but I'd like the ticket left open until there's some sort of answer...
