The display brightness is very dim in the BIOS/UEFI settings when set to Hybrid graphics. It is fine (much brighter) if I set the video to discrete only (RTX 4070 Laptop GPU)

Any ideas?

Hi,

Sorry, I assumed you could see the model on my profile.

Product ID: 7K837EA#ABU

Model Number: HP Omen 17-cm2000na

I've already tried the screen brightness hotkeys Fn+F2 & Fn+F3, which have no effect when in UEFI/BIOS or Safe Mode & WinPE. I read somewhere (on this forum I think) that is the case with some models.

Just a quick side question:

If I were to do a BIOS reset (to factory defaults), would it have any adverse effect on the new CA2023 certificates? They have all been successfully updated - although I am still seeing 1796 events, SBAT errors, which I think is to do with updating the dbx database (Unknown HResult Error code: 0x800700c1).

Note that I haven't changed ANY other settings in the BIOS apart from the Hybrid/RTX 4070 only.

Hi @JayDub32370,

Thank you for your response.

BIOS Reset and CA2023 Certificates:

Resetting the BIOS Setup Default settings to factory defaults is safe and will not corrupt or roll back your CA2023 or Secure Boot dbx databases, as these are protected variables.

  • Action: To safely restore defaults without losing secure keys, access the BIOS menu (typically by pressing Esc then F10 during startup), press F9 to load setup defaults, and press F10 to save and exit.

SBAT Errors & Event 1796 (Error 0x800700c1):

The Event 1796 error (Unknown HResult Error code: 0x800700c1) is a widely documented issue in which Windows Update fails to properly execute or apply the latest Secure Boot DBX or SBAT updates.

  • Cause: The error 0x800700c1 denotes an execution failure, usually where Windows cannot communicate properly with the firmware for these variables.

  • Troubleshooting: This error is primarily a non-critical communication mismatch and rarely affects daily booting. You can attempt to resolve it by downloading and reflashing the latest firmware package via the Official HP® Support page or, if that fails, resetting Secure Boot Keys to factory defaults in your BIOS security settings.

    I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.
