Hi all,
I saw another thread that was locked. I am having the same issue. I had resolved it, but auto-update messed it up again. To those with HP 17 laptops, the BIOS is what's messing up resolution availability above 1080x1920. F.05 is the latest bios firmware that does NOT have this issue. My auto-update updated my bios to F.08, which contains the bug. I wish HP would QA their firmwares before releasing them. As of F.08, I have not been able to roll back to F.05. I believe there is a new security update preventing this. I've tried everything including solutions from Github to no avail. Does anyone else have any ideas?
This issue is directly related to this thread from a few months ago:

Hi @ChaseF ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the issue you're facing with your HP 17.3 inch Laptop PC (17-c3000 series) regarding the HDMI display resolution being restricted to 1080x1920 after a BIOS update (to version F.08) is frustrating, especially if the F.05 BIOS worked without issue. It sounds like you've done extensive troubleshooting, including trying to roll back the BIOS, but are now blocked by security updates.
Here are a few additional steps that might help resolve or work around the problem:
1. Check for Updated Display Drivers Software and Drivers for HP Laptop 17-cn3012ci (7P4Y9EA)
Ensure that the GPU (graphics) drivers for both the integrated Intel or AMD GPU (whichever your model has) are up-to-date. You can download the latest drivers directly from the Hp website (Intel or AMD) rather than relying solely on HP's provided drivers. Sometimes display issues can be linked to driver compatibility rather than just the BIOS.
2. Disable Automatic BIOS Updates
To prevent auto-updating to the problematic BIOS version again, disable automatic BIOS updates in the HP Support Assistant. This won't resolve the current issue but can save you from further disruptions once the issue is fixed.
3. Use HP BIOS Recovery Tool
If HP doesn’t provide a rollback, you could try using the HP BIOS Recovery Tool:
- Turn off your laptop and unplug any external devices.
- Press and hold the Windows key and B key together, then press the Power button while still holding the Windows+B keys.
- If the tool starts, it will attempt to recover a previous BIOS version stored on your system. If a rollback is possible, this method might restore BIOS F.05.
4. Alternative HDMI Cable or Port
Although this seems to be a BIOS issue, if you've tried everything else, consider testing a different HDMI cable or using a different monitor or port if available. In rare cases, updating the BIOS can affect HDMI communication, and swapping cables or monitors can sometimes work around this problem.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Gaya1239,
This is not an accepted solution. None of those solutions resolves the issue of a flawed BIOS with no ability to revert. The issue remains in spite of the suggestions. Unless you can provide a tool to revert the BIOS to F.05 or release an update to F.08 that resolves the resolution restriction, this is unresolved. I have spent more money on trying alternative hardware such as cables, but this is really an issue for HP to fix with a BIOS update.
