Hey all,
I have:
- HP 2013 UltraSlim docking station - Model: D9Y32AA#ABG
- HP EliteBook 820 G3
- AOC CU34G2X, 34" 2k Ultrawide monitor
The monitor is connected to the dock via DisplayPort. Whenever I boot or wake the laptop it either doesn't see the monitor at all (like no cursor or anything - as thought the screen isn't plugged in), or more commonly it shows at a VERY low resolution (typically 640x480 (and there's no option in Windows to select a higher resolution)). If I then unplug and replug in the monitor (Windows will often make the "USB unplug/replug" sound) the monitor usually starts working. Sometimes if that doesn't do it I will need to undock and re-dock the laptop. After I updated the dock firmware sometimes even that wont do it and I need to reboot the laptop entirely.
Can anyone think of a solution as currently I need to do this dance every time I wake or boot my laptop.
Thanks all.

You simply give it as the MAIN display. It will automatically use its display when you are on the move.
Regards.

Does anyone have any further ideas because my external monitor has always been set as main, I'm afraid that isn't the issue.
The issue appears far more likely as though the laptop through the dock is not seeing the monitor correctly (hence either not seeing it at all, or giving it a weird resolution (640x480)). Any help appreciated.

Hello, were you able to find solution ?
I have same/very similar problem (elitebook 840 g4).
I have two monitors, one is 2K connected to hp ultra slim docking station via DP and another FHD connected via VGA.
All is fine, 2K monitor detected correctly, until restart or re-dock of computer.
Once this is done, 2K monitor is recognized like some "flat panel" and has 640x480 resolution (all fine for FHD monitor), which cannot be changed.
If 2K DP and FHD VGA monitor are connected directly in notebook, there is no issue.
I have all drivers updated, including BIOS, docking station FW, graphic driver, Windows 10, ..... all latest available versions.
What I was able to figured out is that this is not happening with my other computer - elitebook 840 g6.
Therefore to me it looks like driver problem.
If anyone would have any hints, I will be very thankful

Hi Pepco, nope. I work in IT technical support, we supply exclusively HP and I support them daily and their docks - I've never seen this issue before for my clients, just my own machine. I've been hunting for a solution and can't find one which is why I turned to this forum - but alas, you're the only other person I've seen online describing basically the same issue.
Wish I could solve it but no one seems to have come up with anything yet.

Install latest display link driver from Displaylink website.
https://www.synaptics.com/products/displaylink-graphics/downloads/windows
HP is late with updating the driver.
This should fix the problem with docks.
(at lest this fixed a lot of problems at our company today with displays)

Thanks for hint, but no changes unfortunately.
2k monitor is detected correctly until reboot or re-dock, then it is suddenly "unknown", named as "digital flat panel 640x480" in device manager.
Interesting is that it was set as main monitor and other one was disabled.
After reboot the disabled one become main and other one "unknown", basically, with low resolution.
I am desperate...
