We have recently received a number of HP Elitebook 840 G10 systems (89D90UT) that we are using with G5 docking stations (72C71AA). When we attach a ViewSonic VG2239 external monitor to the dock, we cannot extend the Windows 11 desktop across the laptop screen and external monitor. We can display on laptop screen only or on external monitor only and the second screen is grayed out as if the hardware is disabled. We have tried connecting the external monitor using both HDMI and DP2 cables. We have run HP Image Assistant to make sure all drivers and BIOS are up to date and the G5 dock has the current firmware. We do not have this issue when we use an Acer monitor instead of the ViewSonic or when we use an HP USB-C Mini Dock (1PM64UT) instead of the G5 dock. We did not have these issues with our previous HP laptop models (840 G8 and 860 G9) with the G5 dock and ViewSonic monitors. We have also tried installing the current Intel Iris Xe Graphics drivers from the Intel site.

I am having the same issue. The laptop recognizes the additional monitors though it will not allow me to extend or duplicate to them. While I can get a single external monitor to display I can only do so as the primary screen. The laptop screen goes black and is no longer connected. The display manager again sees the internal and two connected monitors. The option to extend is there though when I apply the settings nothing changes.
Using the same dock as WinzP.

We are also experiencing this with both the USB-C G5 and the Thunderbolt G2.
I used a passthrough Startech USB-C to 2xDP with the same results.
I could get the Viewsonic to connect if I used a Startech USB-A to DP ... *but* ... I had to unplug the USB-C dock/adapter for it to work.
We tried the 01.04.00 BIOS (11 MAR) with the same results.

I narrowed it down to the Intel video driver. Instead of using SP150326, try SP149726. This appeared to work on Windows 10 and 11.
I wasn't able to do an uninstall/install and get it to work but a fresh install did.
Ironically, when we called HP, they said it wasn't their issue since it worked properly on their stock image of the G10's we just got. Turns out of course that their stock image used the older driver. When I upgraded it, it stopped working. 🙂
Hope this helps.

Hi there , we have almost the same issue but on HP Elitebook 640 G10 laptops we now have in the business. The laptop works flawlessly with any other make and model of dock with HP monitors and also with the HP G5 essential docking station with HP monitors just not the 24" Viewsonic monitors in the business. If we connect it direct from hdmi to hdmi on the hdmi slot on the laptop they work. Did you actually find a resolution?
Any advice appreciated
