I currently have the new HP Spectre X360
Using the Insignia USB Type-C to HDMI External Video Adapter which I have connected an external montitor (Not using any of the other ports)
Seems like there are many issues similiar to mine (for different laptops)
Issue:
When my computer goes to sleep and I awaken it, the monitor will not be recognized unless I unplug and plug back in the HDMI cable or go to Intel Graphics Settings and detect additional monitors. Very time consuming. Seems like a handshake issue of some sort
I have all the latest updates from Windows and HP.
I have tried everything and before I try a new adaptor wondering if there is a solution.

Hi! @Mark_S1, Welcome to HP forums.
I understand that external Monitor is not detected After Sleep Mode.
Don't worry I will try to help you out.
As you mentioned that you are using USB Type-C to HDMI External Video Adapter to connect the monitor.
Have you tried to check with a different adapter or different cable?
Please try the steps recommend below.
Follow these steps to enable your keyboard to wake your computer from sleep mode:
In Windows, search for and open the Device Manager.
Click the arrow next to Keyboards and double-click the name of your keyboard.
If the Power Management tab is available, proceed to the next step.
If the Power Management tab is not available, click the Change Settings button if it appears below the Device status box. The same Keyboard Properties window opens with the Power Management tab available.
If you are prompted for an Administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Click the Power Management tab and make sure that the box next to Allow this device to wake the computer is checked.
Click OK, and then test to make sure that the keyboard can now wake the computer. If the computer still cannot wake from sleep mode, continue using these steps.
Refer this document to further troubleshoot sleep issues with PC.
Let me know if this helps!
Have a pleasant day ahead! 🙂

I already have the wireless keyboard and mouse settings to wake up after sleep which works. If I manually put the computer to sleep and wait 5 minutes and shake my mouse the computer and display will awaken just fine. Any longer than that and the monitor will not be detected even if if I set the monitor to never turn off in sleep mode. I am pretty confident it is either the adaptor of the usb-c port in the computer not "triggering" the wake up call to the monitor

@Mark_S1, Thanks for the quick response.
Thanks for trying out the steps.
Please try uninstalling the display driver from device manager.
And install the latest drivers using HP support assistant.
Refer this document to know how to use HP support assistant.
If the issue still persists I would suggest you use a straight cable instead of an adapter.
Let me know if this helps!
Have a great day ahead! 🙂

Purchased Plugable's USB-C Triple Docking Station and everything seems to be working great. Monitor works great and I am able to plug in all my external devices. Although it cost $180, it's the only real solution I have seen. Ensure you have the Kaby Lake edition with Thunderbolt ports on the Spectre x360

Hi there,
i read the topic and it seems that you have resolved an issue with the plugable tripple usb-c docking station fo my x360 that I am dealing with.
If close the lid of the laptop, it goes to sleep, even if everything is connected to the plugable.
Pushing the on/off button does not change this.
is it possible to have the lid closed and work with the laptop on the second display?
maybe you can help me out
kind regards, Peter
