Hello everyone,

I'm experiencing an issue with connecting 1 external monitor via USB-C. Most of the time, when I connect it, it goes to Power Saving mode. Then 1 or 2 out of 6-8 times it would power on, but I don't know how and why. I tried reinstalling AMD Video drivers, switching the laptop to Balanced mode, uninstalling external monitor from Device manager, but still no go. The same monitor with the same cable works fine from the first plug on another 2 laptops. All drivers are currently up to date according to the HP Support Assistant.

One weird thing I've mentioned, is that in device manager, both laptop and external display appear as "Generic PnP Monitor", but whenever I connect the external monitor to another laptop, it's detected under different and more descriptive name.

The issue is very irritating, since I use my laptop connected to the screen most of the time, but due to lack of time, I've discovered the issue a while after I've purchased the laptop, so I can't return it anymore and I can't make the display work.

Do you have any tips that I could try? Thank you!

Hello Openhagen,

there might be voltage and current fluctuations on the USB C port.

Good luck

best regards
