Example: Pavilion 15-cw1xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

Got lovely new laptop but it won't detect my old external monitor. I used a proven (i.e. it works with other laptop) USB-C to VGA converter cable. I have updated various drivers but so far no joy.

Must confess to beoing disappointed that this doesn't 'just work'.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

@JPPrins Thanks for sharing your concern with the HP Community,

here's what I'll need, so I may be able to provide an accurate solution:

What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: click here - (This isn't enough - Pavilion 15-Cw1xxx)

(Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc.)

Have you attempted any steps on your own before posting on the HP Forums?

Does it work fine using the same cable on another device?

Please reply with the details for further assistance.

Eager to help!

To thank me for my efforts to help you,

It's a Pavilion 15-cw1500sa 15.6" 256 GB SSD

The cable works fine with another laptop and same monitor

I updated various graphic drivers as per suggestions on various other forums

So far no luck getting it to work...

Any suggestions welcome

This website is difficult to navigate! Nightmare to find my post back and then I reply and that's not posted somehow.

Trying again...

It's a Pavilion 15-cw1500sa 15.6" AMD Ryzon 3, 256GB SSD laptop

the cable I use works fine with a different (Dell) laptop and same monitor.

I have updated various graphics drivers

Any other suggestions welcome!

Thanks

@JPPrins I went through the details and I see that the device has the below details:

  • 1 USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C™ (Data Transfer Only, 5 Gb/s signaling rate);
  • 2 USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A (Data Transfer Only)

And I'm afraid none of the above supports USB to video conversion.

Which means you may not be able to connect an external monitor to the device, in my personal opinion, it's best if you check with a local tech that has spare adapters to check if it works, before purchasing any other USB to HDMI adapters.

I hope that answers your query,

Hi

I have a hp pavilion laptop 15-cw1xxx support display port and cannot get a HDMI connection to work form the USB 3.1 C port

I think it is due to it not being DP Display port compatible?

So with only one HDMI on my setup how can I get all three monitors or at least two large external working?
