Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I recently purchased (HP Laptop  and I have been having troubles getting an external monitor to work from the USB Type-C port via a hub with HDMI port. I have followed the Google help and updated Windows 10 to the latest version and  installed the latest drivers from IP support to the best of my knowledge/ability.

I purchased this laptop thinking that I could get two external monitors connected without any issues, but the USB Type-C to HDMI cable I am trying to use does not recognize the monitor. I have successfully connected the USB-C hub on another laptop and it works without any issues.

Per the specs for this laptop it has 1 x USB 3.1 Type-C Gen 1 (Data Transfer Up to 5 Gb/s, Power Delivery, DisplayPort 1.2, HP Sleep and Charge). I am assuming this means that I should be able to connect a 2nd monitor using this port.

I have spend many hours researching a solution, but have not found anything as yet.  Please help if possible.

Dear Mals20,

I hope to provide you the solution for this very annoying problem!!! I had the same issue and I spent almost 3months to fix the isssue after several attempts performed under the supervision of the HP support. You can find the solution in this post I wrote today to be helpful to the HP community: External monitor not working with thunderbolt connector.

Basically you need to change from 0 to 1 an entry of the register file. Keep me posted if that solution works fine!

Hi,

Thank you for your help. I finally got a response from HP support.  The port in question is for Data Transfer only. However, I was able to use get an additional monitor using one of the USB port instead. Hopefully, the driver for the USB Type-C port will be updated eventually.
