There is a new firmware update for G5 Dock. Maybe it will help with this issue.

I use 3 external monitors. The HDMI out (to HDMI) was still blinking a few times a day.

Will post back with results after a day of observation.

Hi all, the beta firmware update didn't work for me either.

HDMDI to HDMI does not work.

Going back to the HDMI out DP does with the upgraded cables does (no dongles/adapters). It's a good "workaround." HP really needs to figure this out. If this forum didn't exist to uplift each other, a vast number of customers would have a terrible experience and suspect that is the case. If anyone has a dedicated HP Account Rep or Manager, please convey to them the seriousness of this problem and notify US Product Manager.

HP, do you read the community posts to improve the user experience?

I wonder if it is a two piece problem.

For me at some point the monitor of my laptop even went off which has nothing to do with the docking station.

I recently found information on my Zbook that the Nvidia (or better a switching between internal processor to GPU) could be causing screen from going off and on.

In the 3d setting i changed the prefence for graphical processor to the always Nvidia instead of letting the system choose.

since then i have not had my laptop monitor turn off and on again.

Rate at the other monitors also seems to have decreased.

For me this matches the pattern of more switching when using teams, autocad and other GPU rich processes.

At my home setup i have only seen the HDMI connection flicker.

I will keep an eye on it to see if this is indeed the only one with a problem her.

At my work setup all 3 screens (laptop + 2 external) have had problems but that was before changing the Nvidia setting.

Once i am back in the office i will also check how it acts and see which connections are used on the problematic screens.

As i did not install that one myself i do not know by heart if HDMI+DP has been or two times DP (i know there are no converters used.

Will have to try this out and report on the results.

Jax, I agree this needs research and repairing, many of my company colleagues with the same setup are having issues. Having the community to help with workarounds and info is very nice. Hope HP can take our "hacks" and find a "use case" that reveals what part of the plumbing is bad. Why does a better cable help the situation. (shrug)

I am having the same problem and replaced my monitors with HP monitors - so I have an HP laptop, HP Dock, HP Monitors - and multiple times during the day one of the monitors will go black for 5-10 seconds - annoying to say the least.  Come on HP - put some resources on this and get it fixed...

We all have the same issue here at work. All HP Zbooks, with the thunderbolt G4 dock. Monitors will randomly turn off for a few seconds throughout the day. (mine are usually 10 or so times.) Tried different cables, different monitors, bios updates, dock firmware updates...etc etc,,with not luck.

I cant believe there are this many people with the same issue and no fix!

Any update?

I changed all my apps to use the Nvidia A4000 card and mine still flicker on and off.

Crazy isn't it?  The only hope I had is when I switched to a G2 dock from a G5.  I got no blinking on and off for a whole week! Then "HP Support Assistant" came along and told me there was a firmware update for my dock.  As soon as that update installed, the problem came back and still occurs to this day.

I wish there was an easy way to revert dock firmware versions but there isn't of course.  The only method I've found that HP has a document for doesn't even work lol.  Go figure.

I didn't do the firmware update. I didn't want to mess with a viable workaround.

I will also try to find their Accessories Product Management Team. This is not right at all that we have to figure this out.

Hi Tom, Sorry for late response. Did you see my post on the cables in how it fixed my problem as a workaround? also, do not update with new firmware. Go with the hack solution vs. reverting back to problems with updates until HP figures this out.
