I didn't want to wait for HP to come up with a solution (although they are still investigating the issue but I guess I'm never going to hear from them again) and bought a 3rd party 90 watt adapter. All problems solved, as expected.
It is really dissapointing that HP bundles a too weak adapter with this laptop. The least they could do is warn (potential) customers that you will not be able to get good performance from the graphics chip with this adapter.

I've recently just purchased the Pavillion 15-ck063tx on Wednesday, 20th December 2017.
It comes equipped with:
HP Pavilion 15-Ck063TX
Core i5 8th Gen 8250u,
Nvidia MX150
8gb RAM
Win 10, 64 bit
The issue that I've identified and need help solving is this (rather similar to OP's issue):
While playing the first person shooter game Overwatch connected to power source, I experience a rhythmic dip in frames, every 15-20 seconds; dropping from 60 fps to 20 fps. The framedrop will last approximately 5 seconds.
However, while running solely on battery, the framerates were stable at 60 fps.
These are the following actions I have undertaken prior to seeking help here (not in order):
1. updating the display drivers.
2. updating windows
3. updated everything listed by HP Support Assistant.
4. Tweaking and toggling with multiple settings in the game.
5. Updated Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework drivers.
6. Toggled between the 2 options in HP Coolsense.
Any ideas/ solutions?

Hello!
I will be heading to the HP service centre after the festive period.
Will update here regarding my findings.
So at this juncture, is it actually safe to say that the supplied power adaptor to our laptops are less than adequate for the power required?
(I have just check mine, comes supplied with a 65 watt adapter)

Hi there, is it possible to provide the part number and the 3rd party brand of the 90w adaptor that successfully works for you? Really apprecite for any info to solve this issue...

I am also experiencing this as well - it's very noticable, the GPU core clock is nice and stable when the plug is out of the adapter and it runs off the battery... but when you plug it in, it wavers all over the place as shown in Afterburner. Is HP doing anything about this or should I arrange to return the unit??
I've done all the recommended steps and really the only way to use the GPU is with the unit not plugged in!

Haha, go ahead and return it while you still can. There are other laptops with the same specs as this model out there which have not received this many complaints from users.
Anyways, HP did collect system data from my unit and then sent it to their "product specialists" to take a look. It seems like it's taking them a long time to figure out what's wrong 😛
You could either wait for probably a week or two (or possibly even longer) for HP to realise they messed up, and replace your adapter, or just return the unit if possible and save yourself a hassle.
Also, as mentioned before, purchasing a higher power adapter yourself works too.
And what on earth is paying to contact a "smart friend" lol. It sounds so ridiculous.
