G6 LCD backlight on, no image, laptop works on external monitor, tried posted solutions already

A while ago my Pavilion G6 screen hinge broke which damaged the LCD cable so Ive been running the laptop off an external monitor, finally decided to replace the broken chassis and cable but Ive had no luck, I just get a backlit screen with no image, tried a second cable, same issue. The laptop is reporting all windows drivers are up to date, machine is running Win 10 64 bit home (I believe when I bought it it was running Win 7 with a free update, there is an option to revert to win 7 in the system settings).

So Im assuming its LCD screen or software (BIOS? related) the current BIOS is showng F.24 - 01/17/2013. If it is the BIOS how do I update it, Ive tried the methods I could find in the forums but no luck? Thanks

If the cable you tried do not work, most likely the actual panel is damaged and needs to be replaced. If you need a guide, let me know the complete model or product number of the notebook.

Update, weirdly when I put the product code in to check the latest BIOS it does offer me an option for Win 10, and the Windows 7 64 bit (which I can revert back to) is a newer version than I have installed. Why no Win 10 version of the BIOS?

I do not think that it is the BIOS. Naturally in the OS when you have the external screen attached you have turned on both screens (not only "second screen only") you can change by pressing the  F4 key or fn+F4 keys.

Sometimes when the LCD cable is damaged it can also damage the actual Panel.

to replace the screen, the part number is 681817-001 and you can find online

Edit: The BIOS is not strictly related to the OS, so you can use Win 7 Bios upgrade even if you are running Windows 10

Update - tried a brand new OEM panel and still the same. Updated the BIOS to the latest still the same. Tried a full factory restore, still the same but now I cannot access the duplicate screen function to see what I am doing.

Any ideas? to (a) fix the issue with the laptop display (b) select screen duplication during what is effectively a factory restore of the OS?
