Hmmm, your link is to the F.08 BIOS update file - however, I've obtained the F.06 update - which is executable : sp151481
Once run, this has :
08BBA.bin and 08BBA.sig : in the HP\BIOS\Current - folder
and
08BBAME0.bin and 08BBAME0.sig : in the HP\DEVFW\Current - folder
I tap EXCAPE at boot
I choose F9 "Boot options"
I cycle through all of the available files listed on the HP_Tools USB
All but one of the .efi files returns the result "the selected boot device failed"
The only one that does anything different is "DevFwUpdate.efi" in the DEVFW folder - which runs - but which reports "the device Firmware Update failed"
What the heck am I doing wrong here ?

I do not know where your 8BBA came from
from https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp151001-151500/sp151481.exe
what is the baseboard id of your system?
the z400 uses the 0B4Ch bios for example

Thanks Beemer - I now have the right files - extracted to a folder
Can you describe the process I need to go through to update ?
I'll get a system screenshot once I'm back on that machine - currently on it's replacement
UPDATE : Really odd - but when I run sp151481 on the HP laptop - it extracts the 08BBA BIOSs .. but when I run the same program on my MSI laptop - I get the "correct" 08B6C BIOSs ..
That said - when I then create the bootable USB on the MSI laptop using the "correct" BIOSs - whichever option I choose give me an error ...

Unfortunately, this was erased before I could make a note of it
I looked at the following BIOSes
sp145059 F.1
sp151481 F.6
sp153148 F.7
sp154466 F.8
all are for the board id of either 08B6C or 08C0E
My understanding of the board ID is that it must match the bios. Your board id of 8BBA does not match any of the BIOS for the 470 G10. I do not know where it came from. Did it show up as a windows update? Did the HP Support Assistant recommend it? it does not match any at the 470 G10
I installed the F.8 bios on my USB F drive and I attached a file listing of it. Does it match what you have?
You are in UK, is the download link get the same file as my ftp link I provided earlier?

I've cropped the image - I think maybe it was because I'd left in some details HP don't want me to share
My board was swapped out by a Hemmersbach technician two weeks ago - a subcontractor on behalf of HP - sent to fix this "graphics not outputting at 5120 x 1440" issue
The F.07 BIOS arrived as a result of running the HP Support Assistant - the F.08 BIOS came preloaded on the new board the Hemmersbach tech installed two weeks ago - neither allow the laptop to support 5120 x 1440 output via HDMI
Yes - I am in the UK - and am searching on the UK Support site for the HP 470 G10 - choosing an operating system - choosing BIOS - and then drilling down to previous BIOSs to get to the same executable - AND I have used the download FTP link you provided (thank you) - both are the same file - both give the same results
I have literally now got both my new laptop (MSI machine) and the HP 470 G10 side by side - I have downloaded sp151481 on both machines, from the same location - run the program - extracted the BIOSs to file - this is what I get
MSI machine
HP Machine
It's like when it's run on the HP machine - it copies a version of the CURRENT BIOS - and not the one from the downloaded file ... either way - the object here is to try to roll back to the F.06 BIOS - and to see if that fixes the issue I have - and even if I copy the BIOSs extracted by the MSI machine (which we think are the correct ones) - and then run the program on the HP machine - it doesn't install that BIOS ...
Is there a third party piece of software that can flash (or even force) a BIOS ?
By the way - thank you BeemerBiker - aware that maybe my honest gratitude isn't coming across in the text - I am genuinely thankful for your help here 🙂

Since your board ID is 8BBA it is unlikely the upgrade procedure will allow any bios that has a different name to be installed.
You have a replacement motherboard and it can be upgraded only with the 8BBA bios family.
Was the motherboard replaced or the entire laptop? Did the serial number change?

Serial number has stayed the same ... it was only the mobo the was switched out - everything else remained as per
I'm going to try extracting the BIOSs via the MSI laptop - and then manually renaming them 8BBA - as per the extracted BIOSs from the HP machine ...
Do you know the correct procedure from there - how to actually go through the process of a BIOS flash from the USB drive?
Currently - I'm booting from an efi on the USB drive - but am getting nowhere with this .. only one of the efi files runs - the "DevFwUpdate.efi" in the DEVFW folder - but it reports "the device Firmware Update failed" ... everything else reports "the selected boot device failed"
