Troubleshooting black screen issues on HP Notebooks: Click here to view the instructions!
HP Recommended
ENVY x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After downloading HP "Recommended" updates the display goes to multi-colored verticle lines. A complete shut down will allow the home screen to return but once the lid is closed and re-opened the lines are back or if the laptop goes to sleep.

What can be done to resolve this problem? Guess I won't be updating.

In the meantime, have you tried performing a System Restore, to set the notebook back to its previous working state.  If you are still having trouble, then try reviewing the following document, and let me know how it goes:

I'm having this issue as well, will post details when I get home later today, in my case it's also related to the machine sleeping (I think closing the lid causes the machine to sleep).  It's a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro, I use TeamViewer and was wondering if that might cause the issue...

I am having the same problem described by the other posters.  HP Envy Model m6-w105dx, S/N: 8CG54515S7 Windows 10 Home edition.Display.JPG

Same here, before it reaches ths stage it's a blank screen and I see bars of vertical color each time I touch the keyboard/mouse.  In the picture below you see a small square, this represents the mouse and will move when you move the physical mouse.  Brand new computer - great, just what I wanted to do!

Spectre x360 display issues following wake-up from sleep

Here is an image of the color bars I mentioned, I took a video to capture this flickering:

Vertical flashing lines

I installed the HP support app, it had a suggested Intel video driver update, I had this one previously (the one with the funky graphics):

I replaced it with this one:

With this things seem to be behaving again, hope this helps others...

Longtrail,

I appreciate your feedback but your screen shots are not showing up as valid images on my machine.  What format did you upload them in?

png, if you can send me a private message I'd be happy to email you the images (once I get home)...

My product number is M1V66UA#ABA.

I see others are having the same issue as well. I also have another "Recommended" update waiting to be downloaded but I'm not until I can get this issue resolved.

Thanks

Thanks Longtrail, got the images and things seem to have been fixed.  For anyone else following this thread, the HP Support Assistant did not offer to update the 520 display driver and neither did the Intel Driver Update Utility.  I had to update it directly from the device manager, which on the first try also said it was up to date, and wound up getting 10.18.15.4281 on the second attempt.  Best of luck to anyone else having this issue.
