Hello,
My laptop screen flickers very frequently (black stripes, sometimes the full display goes dark). I’ve done a factory reset, updated all the drivers, etc., but nothing has changed. The screen doesn’t flicker when connected to an external monitor (I tested it).
I noticed that switching the refresh rate from 60Hz to 40Hz resolves the issue.
However, I’d like to use my laptop at full capacity, since 40Hz makes for a choppy experience.
How can I fix this so the screen works properly at 60Hz?

Hi @BenZaf
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It seems like your laptop's screen flickering issue at 60Hz might be related to the display driver or hardware compatibility. Since you've already tried a factory reset and updated drivers, here are some additional steps to help resolve the problem:
Step 1: Update Graphics Drivers
- Visit the HP Support website and search for your laptop model (HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 13-ay0008ca).
- Download and install the latest graphics drivers for your laptop.
- Alternatively, you can use the Intel Driver & Support Assistant to ensure your Intel graphics drivers are up to date.
Step 2: Adjust Display Settings
- Open Settings > System > Display.
- Under Advanced Display Settings, select your laptop's built-in display.
- Ensure the resolution is set to the recommended value and try switching back to 60Hz refresh rate.
Step 3: Check for Windows Updates
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Click Check for updates and install any pending updates.
- Restart your laptop after the updates are installed.
Step 4: Test Hardware Acceleration
- Open Settings > System > Display > Graphics Settings.
- Enable or disable hardware acceleration for apps that frequently use the display.
- Restart your laptop and check if the flickering persists.
Step 5: Run Diagnostics
- Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly to access the Startup Menu.
- Select F2 - System Diagnostics and run a display test to check for hardware issues.

Since the issue persists, seems to be a hardware issue.
