HP EliteBook x360 1030 G2 Base Model
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all,

I am using an HP EliteBook x360 1030 G2 Base Model, and I am running Windows 10 Home Edition.

Until recently, I was able to use "fn"+f3/f4 hotkey combination to adjust the screen brightness manually. I cannot do that anymore, possibly because of some software update. (I can still use hotkeys to change system volume though)

I tried updating the monitors and display adapters drivers from the device manager, as you can see below:HPsupportjpg.jpg

This did not fix the problem. I also tried to disable/enable the generic pnp monitor, as recommended in another HP support thread. This didn't help either. Any ideas?

Hello @AG13_-,

That's quite strange. First ensure the latest Windows updates have been made in Settings.

Your laptop is the HP EliteBook x360 1030 G2 - correct?

If so, try installing the chipset:

Intel Chipset Installation Utility

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/19347/chipset-inf-utility.html

Then try the graphics driver above again. It may also be worth a try to reinstall the hotkey support again.

HP Hotkey Support

Let us know how it goes.

Kind regards,

Eddy

Hello @AG13_-,

Instead of updating the devices in Device Manager, I would recommend uninstalling the device - including the drivers.

Then install this driver:

Intel Video Driver and Control Panel

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp87501-88000/sp87556.exe

Let us know how it goes.

Hope this works,

Eddy

Thank you for the feedback. Unfortunately it doesn't work. I unistalled both devices, including drivers. The appearence of my desktop changes, and I get a prompt to restart my computer to complete the installation. Once I restart, the screen is initially the same, but very quickly it goes black and then reverts to its normal, pre-uninstall state. The initial devices are reinstalled automatically, and I can see them again in the device manager.

So I tried to install the package from the link that you sent me without restarting, just after I uninstalled the two devices. This does not work. I get a prompt "Your system does not meet the minimum requirements" and the installation quits.

The link that you sent me seems to be incompatible with my device. Untitled.jpg

Thank you very much! Installing the HP Hotkey support solved the problem.

I can confirm that my laptop is HP EliteBook x360 1030 G2. Windows were up to date according to windows update. I installed the intel chipset with no problems. The intel video driver gives an error ("This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing this software") if you try to install it after uninstalling the display adaptors and monitors drivers from device manager. If you don't mess with the drivers, the installation goes through. Also, after restarting my computer, the drivers I uninstalled get reinstalled automatically, as I said before. I don't know how or why this happens.

All this doesn't solve the problem with the hotkeys though. So eventually I installed the HP hotkey support as you suggested, and the issue was fixed. Thanks again!
