Hello, I have been having an issue with my 15 inch HP Envy x360’s colors that I’ve noticed since I got it, however I have recently realized how drastic the color difference really is. It has AMD RADEON graphics and AMD RYZEN 7 4000 series as well, if that is any help.
Firstly, the colors are not as vibrant as they should be. I am not sure that is the right term, but it seemingly is not a problem with the saturation nor the contrast of the colors, as we have tried changing those as well. It is just the way the color looks, the vibrancy. Vibrant hot pinks show up as a pale pastel pink, and purples turn into a dull blue, dark reds turn into some washed out orange shade, and so on and so forth. However, if the laptop is plugged into or projected onto a TV, the colors appear as perfectly as they are supposed to!
After many days searching support forums and trying out each proposed solution, nothing worked.
- We tried going into the display settings and changing the color calibration, but that only caused things to have a different tint or lightness, not the colors themselves to show up right. There was no way to play with the RGB scales that would make the colors look right.
- We tried going into the AMD Radeon Software and changing the custom colors there, but no matter what we did with the saturation or color temperature, the colors still do not show accurately, only different odd shades compared to each other.
- We tried uninstalling the graphics off of my computer and reinstalling it, updating it to current drivers, but that made no changes at all.
We have come to the conclusion that it may be an issue with the screen, or something, and a post we found somewhere else sort of confirms that hypothesis. The link is here.
Basically, it states that the way the screen is made, the colors are purposely inaccurate? So apparently there is nothing wrong, despite how inaccurate the colors are? However, it also states that a tool was being made to allow users to change the way the colors are displayed to make it more accurate. But… This post was made in 2012. I do not know how accurately this post applies to me, nor if they have ever developed that tool since this is the only thing I have seen of it. If they have, please let me know.
All in all, we are stumped. We are not sure what the issue is exactly and have tried all solutions that we could think of, only for them to not be of any aid at all. The reason I wanted a computer like this was for drawing, but when the colors are so off, coloring those drawings is nearly impossible! Yet this computer is praised for its display of color? I don’t know, maybe we are just not trying the right things. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
