Hi all
My PC configuration is:
Windows Edition: Windows 10 Home 64-bit (Originally Windows 7)
Model: HP Pavilion g4-1318dx Notebook PC
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU B960 @2.20GHz
Installed RAM: 4GB
System Type: 64-bit Operating System
Since I updated to Windows 10, everything was working like peaches, but a couple weeks ago, I tried to use Skype, and the Webcam ceased to work, I believed it was a small problem, and ignored it. Afterwards, the camera failed again on a Google Hangout session when that happened, I started to worry. My search for fixing this problem started. I read a lot, and did not find a solution yet.
The things I've done so far now are: Update the CyberLink YouCam software (through HP), the camera was not working even when it was ran with the original software that came with my PC (never opened the software until I had this problem), and just today, the camera seemed stable enough to not crush the updated CyberLink YouCam program.
I updated the driver HP Webcam driver through the Device Manager, just to tell me that I had the latest driver available (which changed nothing to be honest). I then explored other options, like updating the CyberLink YouCam directly through the website, but the installation was locked by Windows 10, it seems due to a lack of a valid signature, even though there are ways to bypass this, I decided not to do it yet.
Then, I found a possible solution, which was to uninstall the HP HD Webcam [Fixed], run a hardware check, and then wait for the system to install the driver that comes pre-installed. This actually made the driver appear again, which I updated through the Device Manager (I believe this gave some stability to the webcam).
At this point I'm very disappointed since, it seems that there isn't an HP solution out there for the camera, and I only found this link:
http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04758308
But is generic -and not useful-, since I'm totally unable to find a recent driver for the HP HD Webcam [Fixed]. The updated driver is dated 10-07-2015, as it can be checked on the Device Manager driver, and so far, I believe is not compatible.
What solutions might be out there that are not generic, like, for example, restoring your system back to Windows 7?. To be honest, so far I'm pretty happy with Windows 10, and is the first time consuming problem I had with it.
Any help, especially from HP -regarding Windows 10- would be much appreciated.
Cheers!

I had the same problem and discovered the solution the other day. Go here: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03430151 and scroll down to the heading: Video does not display in your webcam software (such as YouCam, Skype, Messenger, etc.) Then, follow Step 3: Update or change the webcam driver
What you're going to be doing is changing the camera driver to the, Microsoft USB Video Device driver. This solved the problem.

Excellent! Simle answer.
When I was pulling my hair yesterday, my web searches (google and HP site) did not get me this page. Thanks to the poster for posting the question with images and the steps taken. It helped a lot to identify if the problem is the same.
Question to HP: It seems an automatic update by Windows 10 changed the driver. How can this be prevented?

PeteGee2, thanks a lot for this simple and yet excellent solution. I tried it out almost a year ago, and worked! Thanks a lot for taking the time to post a good working reply. I'm also glad that some other people benefited from my post and your answer. Cheers!
P.S.: It's sad that HP customer service failed to come with a solution from their own.
