Very recently my laptop screen has started consistently flickering on Start up. It's unreadable and the laptop appears to start up too quickly possibly without everything it needs. A hard restart is needed and invariably the restart gets it working perfectly - with a noticeably longer wait on the HP logo page including circular wait cursor.. The only thing I've noticed different is a recent update must have forced the HP Assistant into start up apps as prior to the problem it was always background. Disabling this in start up does not clear the problem. I've checked for both Win 11 and Driver updates and everything appears to be up to date.
Help gratefully received.

Hello @Ian-A-24
Sorry to hear that you are having problems ... I would like to help you.
(1) Double check with external monitor connected via vga/hdmi cable. Do you have the same error pattern (flickering) on external monitor ?
- Shutdown notebook (No Sleep / No Hibernate)
- Power off external monitor
- Connect vga/hdmi cable
- Power on external monitor
- Power on notebook

Hi
Thanks for the assistance, and apologies for the delay. I had to find the appropriate monitor with HDMI.
I've tested this morning and the flicker is not on the external monitor. On start up the Laptop screen was unreadable but the External monitor was fine. A restart of the laptop then brought that to life (and I'm typing this on it now).
Does this give a clearer idea of what the problem might be?
Regards
Ian

Hi
To me a loose cable does not seem likely for these two reasons
- it always behaves perfectly once it starts up correctly.
- the restart or hard reset always corrects it. 100% so far in 3 weeks of use since the problem arose.
In either of these cases a loose cable would surely manifest itself at some point other than start up.
This is not a laptop that has a hard life either - it pretty much stays in the same position on a desk all the time.
Are there any other suggestions please?
I've seen another thread for someone with the same laptop and the same issue
Thanks
Ian
