Hi @Benilda,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Pointer Issues!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Check Touchpad Settings:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Mouse > Additional mouse options.
- Check the touchpad settings to ensure it’s enabled and configured correctly.
Update or Rollback Driver:
- Open Device Manager.
- Locate Mice and other pointing devices and update the driver by right-clicking and selecting Update driver.
- If the problem started after a recent update, consider rolling back the driver to a previous version.
Enable Pointer Visibility:
- In the Mouse Properties window, go to the Pointer Options tab.
- Check the box for Show location of pointer when I press the CTRL key. This can help locate the pointer on your screen.
Disable Auto-Hide Functionality:
- Sometimes, certain apps may cause the pointer to disappear. Check your application settings to ensure the pointer is not set to auto-hide.
Check for Conflicting Software:
- Ensure no third-party software (like screen recording apps or custom pointer software) is causing interference with the mouse settings.
Boot into Safe Mode:
- Restart your laptop in Safe Mode to see if the issue persists. If the pointer works normally in Safe Mode, there might be a software conflict causing the issue.
Scan for Malware and Viruses:
- Use a reliable antivirus program to scan your laptop for malware and viruses that may be affecting the pointer.
Perform a System Restore:
- If the issue started recently, use a System Restore to revert your computer to a point when it was working correctly.
Check Hardware:
- Ensure the touchpad or external mouse is not physically damaged. If you're using an external mouse, try connecting it to another USB port or use a different mouse.
I hope this helps.

There was a software malfunction so had to change the strip connecting the touch pad. Don't know if my terminology makes sense. But I got the touch pad working again. Thanks for reaching out. Much appreciated.
