Bought 2 of these for my kids for Christmas 2018. The screen on one cracked 2 weeks ago at the bottom right corner and cracked all the way when my kid tried to close it. Since out of warranty I disassembled and found that the thin plastic piece that holds the hinge to the top case had broken at each of the screws on both sides which forced the hinge into the glass screen when moved. Today went to look at the other laptop and same thing happened. Did an internet search and realize I'm not alone. No extended warranty. Is this a serial defect that HP has with their convertible laptops? Is there a fix that doesn't cost almost as much as a new latop?

Great concept, poor execution. HP says that I'm on my own, $900 worth of computer that lasted 18 months. Fix more than half the price of the computer as would require new top case, hinges and screen. Not worth fixing. Hopefully can get my kids stuff off before I trash them.
Pulled the first one apart. Found out that each hinge attaches to the upper casing using metal screws attached to metal nuts that are molded into a piece of plastic that's a bit thicker than a credit card. The metal nuts where no longer attached to the plastic allowing the hinge to push against the screen instead of being attached to the casing. Both screens popped out at the bottom right corners and cracked when moved like a ripple effect. Would have probably popped out and cracked on left side if we were left handed. If only one laptop broke I would call it an accident, both breaking in the same manner makes me question the design. Hopefully yours is under warranty.

It's really awful to hear that. Actually mine is also out of warranty. But you know what the worst part is? I already got this screen popping out issue during the warranty period and got it replaced. Now it happened again just after the warranty period got over. It sucks that they keep selling this badly designed product when so many people have complaints like this.
