Microsoft Windows 11

My touchpad randomly stopped working today. In device manager it shows up as "I2C HID Device (This device cannot start. (Code 10) A request for the HID descriptor failed.)". The keyboard lights up whenever I press or move my finger on the touchpad, but the cursor doesn't move. I can only move my mouse with an external mouse, the touchpad doesn't work even in Bios. I loaded a bootable USB drive running Linux Mint, the touchpad didn't work there either.

Tried: Updating Bios, (updating drivers failed, couldn't manage to get it working), resetting bios to factory defaults

You have done the diagnostics any tech would do. If the touchpad does not work in Setup or in Linux its gone bad. Its either the touchpad itself or the controller on the motherboard. The latter is not likely if an external mouse works. Here is the Part Number for the touchpad which is a separate replaceable part.

(3) Touchpad (includes cable) L77252-001

Hey, thank you for your reply. I took it apart and found out that the part number on the touchpad itself is written as “TM-P3563-001”, which upon searching for on eBay comes up with “L44580-001”, instead of “L77252-001”. When i search for “L77252-001” the same results pop up so i’m assuming this is the part i need? Probook 445 G7 comes up as compatible with it. I also tried with another spare I had, but it had a different part number despite looking basically the same, “TM-P3338-017”, so I assume it was a dead end to begin with, even though it was a “L44580-001“ spare. Should I risk buying the exact same part i currently have (TM-P3563-001) or should have the other one I tried worked as well? Thank you and looking forward to your reply.

tl;dr: my touchpad is TM-P3563-001. When searching on ebay results come up as: L44580-001 TM-P3563-001. When searching for L77252-001, same results as above pop up. I tried a L44580-001 TM-P3338-017 and it did not work. Should I buy a TM-P3563-001 or should the TM-P3338-017 have worked?

The only part number that matters is the one I gave you. Took it right from the service manual. The numbers that start with TM are not HP numbers but manufacturer codes of some sort. It is not impossible the same part may have 2 different HP numbers so as long as the seller says it is compatible with L77252-001 you can use that touchpad.

Thank you, I'll look into it and probably buy from HP directly.

Always best if they have it. If not you gotta rely on aftermarket which usually will have it
