So, my wife has this laptop and almost a year ago the screen went out and I just assumed the whole display was bad and planned to replace the screen. We moved and the laptop got lost in boxes, we finally uncovered it and when we opened it up, I noticed that the screen actually does display it's just not bright. The brightness controls do nothing.

So before I run out and actually purchase a new screen for like $300, I thought I'd come here for some assistance.

Anything I can do to get this backlight working?

Please ensure the AC Adapter is plugged in and check in the BIOS if the screen is dim

Shut down the Notebook and upon restarting keep tapping on the F10 key till you see System Configuration Menu ( BIOS )

Keep me posted how it goes 😊

Hey Toad,

I am unsure how to get into the BIOS when my screen doesn't light up. The HDMI port on the laptop doesn't activate until I hit the OS so I have no visibility. The screen has almost zero visibility.

That is why we were trying to check if you are able to see the BIOS.

If you are unable to get to the BIOS, then it would be a Hardware issue

I would request you to contact HP Support for Service Options
