Hello,

I have at work a HP ZBook 15u G4 connected with two Z23n monitors... it was working perfect for 2 years with a 3005pr USB Port Replicator, but for some reason it died, while I solve warranty details and a replacement I wanted to keep the 2 monitor support by connecting one monitor directly to the Display Port, and the other to the USB-C port thru a HP USB-C™ to HDMI 2.0. But it is not working, it keeps popping up a msg saying the USB Device is not recognized

https://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/hp-usb-c-to-hdmi-20

Device specifications mention compatibility with the HP ZBook 15 G4, and I already installed latest driver version from

https://support.hp.com/mx-es/drivers/selfservice/hp-usb-c-to-hdmi-2.0/17106136

I already verified the HDMI cable and the Display are functional. I haven't discarded yet a problem with the USB-C port or the USB-C to HDMI converter. I just like to confirm if it is expected to work or if the Device specifications compatibility is wrong stating compatibility with the HP ZBook 15 G4...

I've seen some blogs saying that this computer supports USB-C Alternate DP mode only by using devices like the 3005pr USB Port Replicator, but in theory the HP USB-C™ to HDMI should support it too, what do you think?

I realized that when my Port Replicator was functional a USB driver called "DisplayLink USB Graphics Device" showed up, so I searched for DisplayLink compatible devices.

https://www.displaylink.com/products/find?vid_hdmi=1

They all are very expensive, maybe due to the DisplayLink  certification, but found this one at a fair price and it works!!!!

@nachocast

Its USB-C port is ONLY an USB Type-C (basic) port (page 4 of the manual) therefore this port won't give video out with nor without hub/dock.

Regards.

Thank you for you response, I'll accept as solution, but still don't understand why the device specifications mention compatibility with the HP ZBook 15 G4 in its web page.

And sorry, you mentioned "port won't give video out with nor without hub/dock" that is not true, I had two working monitors connected to a 3005pr USB 3.0 Port Replicator
