I want to connect a monitor to my laptop. But I want to close the lid without the computer going into sleep mode. I tried to check the power settings, but I don't see the option to do it.

what you wanna do is go into your options and power and sleep 

then under related settings towards the left click additional power options

then you should click choose what closing the lid does
