HP Envy x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi All,

I have a habit of watching Youtube with my laptop sideways on my bed before sleep.  (Imagine opening a book V-shaped and standing it upright.)  When I do this, the physical keyboard turns off. And I can't type.  How do I enable it again?  I have searched here and tried turning off tablet mode but the keyboard still turns off on its own when i turn my Envy sideways.

Thank you for your help.

Henry

Thank you for joining HP Forums.

This is a great place to get support, find answers to your technical queries.

The keyboard in Windows 10 has an automatic detector to disable the keyboard and the trackpad as soon as it becomes a 'tablet'. To access it go to the following menu items:
Control panel (NOT SETTINGS) -> Keyboard (use icons) -> Keyboard Lock -> Auto-Lock the keyboard and touchpad (recommended)

You can use these settings to disable the keyboard in tablet mode

Configuring Tablet Mode involves three basic actions:

  1. Go to the Tablet Mode tab under Settings -> System.
  2. Toggle the "make Windows more touch friendly" option on or off.
  3. Select whether the device switches modes automatically prompts you or never switches.

Step-by-Step Instructions with Screenshots

1. Click Settings on the Start Menu.

Select settings

2. Select System.

Select System

3. Select Tablet mode in the left pane. A Tablet mode submenu appears.

Select ablet mode

4. Toggle "Make Windows more touch-friendly . . ." to on to enable Tablet mode. Toggle it off to go to desktop mode.

Toggle to on

5. Select "Don't ask me and always switch" from the "When this device automatically switches" menu if you want Windows 10 to switch modes on your 2-in-1 without prompting you.

Select don't ask me and always switch

Thank you Raj for the quick reply.  I am still unable to correct the setting.

Per below instruction, I found Control Panel and Keyboard icon but there is no "Auto-Lock" setting.

"Control panel (NOT SETTINGS) -> Keyboard (use icons) -> Keyboard Lock -> Auto-Lock the keyboard and touchpad (recommended)"

The Tablet mode, I have already configured.  Tablet mode is disabled anddoes not switch automaticaly. But the keyboar still turns orn when laptop goes sideways.

@KryptonicRxn

Thanks for the reply,

The laptop is designed in such a way that once the laptop is on the tablet mode the physical keyboard will automatically get disabled.

For further assistance.

I have sent you a private message, to contact HP Phone support depending on the product that cannot be shared in a public post.

Can you please check your inbox on the forums page for the private message.

Negative. They were never able to fix it. After several emails exchanged, the tech guy just told me to accept it as is. Lame
