The computer display brightness automatically changes when switching between applications (ex. PDF reader, Microsoft Word, VLC media player). I am running Windows 10 with latest updates and display driver up to date. There is no option to turn off adaptive display in advanced power settings or in display settings (see screenshots below). How to turn off adaptive brightness?

Hi Sandytechy20, thank you. I created a separate user account but "Enable Adaptive Display" was still not available. However, I discovered the source of the problem! Bitdefender Total Security has a "Movie Profile" feature that was on and automatically adjusts the brightness. I turned this off, and the problem stopped. However, I still don't know why "Enable Adaptive Display" is not available with the HP Recommended [Active] power profile. Thanks again for your support.

Welcome to HP support community.
- Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options, then click on "Change plan settings" next to your active power plan.
- Click on "Change advanced power settings."
- Scroll down to Display, then under Enable adaptive brightness, switch it off for both the battery and plugged in modes.
I hope that helps.

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, my advanced power settings do not include adaptive brightness. The only option under Display is "'Turn off display after." This was shown in the image in my original post, and I paste another image snip of this below. My Windows 10 is up to date. What is the reason adaptive brightness would not be shown in Advanced settings, and what to do about this?
Thank you in advance for your reply.

Hi @Sandytechy20, thank you for your suggestion. I updated the BIOS. Unfortunately, I still don't see "Enable Adaptive Display" under the Display section of advanced power options (image below). Looks like the power profile is "HP Recommended." I also made a custom power profile, but "Enable Adaptive Display" was still not available. What else do you suggest I try?

Hello,
I have an HP Envy running Windows 10 Home version...I also have a second screen monitor set up. Whenever I turn off my lights the second monitor always dims while the laptop stays bright. I want both of the screens to remain bright. My computer doesn't have a auto brightness button, nor does it have a sensors section in the device manager. If I type in adaptive lighting in the search bar it only gives me web results. Can someone help me please?

Hi @Kingcadillac - Sounds like the issue is with your second monitor settings. What is the make & model of your second monitor? Check if it has a software app with settings and/or settings built into the monitor hardware.
