How to fix my brandnew laptop display which is too bright and too dim?

Hi,

I bought a new HP Notebook last week. I am working as a graphic designer so while using photoshop, colors are really crucial thing in my work. Black appears gray and blue appears light blue in its default backlight. I am not comfortable with the laptop screen while working. Its not good in the eyes. I tried adjusting the brightness but I think this is something to do with its contrast. Please advise.

Can we have the exact model number? If you have Windows 10 you can try calibrating the display. 

This is a Dell website but the steps to calibrate the colors and brightness and contract are for all Windows 10 laptops:

hanks for the response. By the way my laptop model is HP Notebook 14 am035tx core i3. It has AMD Radeon which is I'm not really familiar with.  Please advise on how to set the color display correctly. Im afraid to do it manualy because I might mess up so I wish to have the standard setting or anything that will just reduce the glossy effect in my screen. Thanks!

Nothing will reduce the glossy effect (I personally avoid glossy laptop screens where I can and go for "matte" or "antiglare" models) and there is no way to calibrate other than following the steps outlined in the article I linked. It can make a pretty big difference in the appearance of the laptop. You can always go back if you don't like how it calibrates. What do you have to lose?
