My HP laptop screen is not bright enough or too dim for what I'm used to and it bothers me. I tried everything like setting brightness to max and using third party software to adjust brightness to using screen calibration feature which just reduces contrast but does not increase brightness. Normally the solution would be to replace the LCD Inverter but my laptp screen is not LCD, it is LED. WLED to be precise. Everyone has told me that the only option for this type of screen would be to replace the screen with a brighter one which would be difficult.

So I'm wondering if there is any other solution to increase the brightness of my screen.

Brightness is measured in candelas per meter squared (cd/m2) or nits. Like “horsepower” is to automobile engine power, so are nits to displays. They are simply a measure of how many candles of brightness a display is equivalent to. So there is no way to increase the nits of a display using the software. If you are not satisfied with the display brightness then I recommend you replace the display with a higher nits value.

I hope that answers your question.

@sprotz Let's try increasing the brightness of the laptops and check if that makes a difference,

Also, you may want to perform a colour calibration to get the screen into your preference:

Before you start, make sure your monitor has been on for at least half an hour, so it's warmed up properly, and clean your monitor.

1. Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings

2. Click "Advanced display settings" at the bottom of the settings window.

3. Verify that your monitor is set to the recommended, native resolution. If it's not, set it to the recommended resolution at least for this calibration process.

4. Click "Color calibration" at the bottom of the advanced display settings window.

5. Click Next to start the colour calibration.

The wizard will walk you through adjusting your colour settings. You'll:

  • Set the display to the factory default colour settings, if your monitor allows you to do that
  • Adjust your display's gamma to match a sample image

  • Adjust the brightness and contrast

Adjust the colour balance

6.
At the end of the wizard, click Finish to save your settings.

\i already did that. It is not what I asked.

@sprotz This is the only way the brightness can be increased, replacing with another WLED display isn't something HP recommends or supports, that said, if the issue persists, Install the latest version of the HP Hardware diagnostics (UEFI) on your device using this link: Click here for details

  • Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  • Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  • On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.
  • Click Extensive Test.
  • Click Run once, or Loop until error.
  • While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for each component display on the screen.

If a component fails a test, write down the failure ID (24-digit code) for when you respond back to us.

There is no 'system tests' option, there is only 'memory test' and 'hard drive check'.

@sprotz The rest of the options will only be available after you install the UEFI using the link I shared earlier, please install and retry!

That is what I did. I installed twice. I even went to the installation folder and clicked on the available executable there, but still the same options.
