HP ENVY x360 15.6 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 15-ew0000 IDS Base Model
Microsoft Windows 11

I purchased the laptop just a few days ago and once it came out of the box then pen would not fully charge and connect to my computer.  I plugged the pen in and the color would stay amber for hours if left there.  After about ten minutes of it charging it would shut off and then start charging again but never reaching full capacity and thus never able to connect to my laptop.  All of the fixes that I have seen have been fixes on the computer but I don't believe that its a computer issue.

Hi @matt4356,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're dealing with a hardware issue with your HP Tilt Pen rather than a software problem with your laptop. Given that the pen fails to charge fully and repeatedly cycles between charging and shutting off, there might be a defect in the pen's battery or charging circuitry.

Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Check the Charging Cable and Port:

  • Ensure the charging cable is fully functional. Try using a different cable and charging adapter to see if the issue persists.
  • Make sure the charging port on the pen is clean and free of debris. Dust or lint could prevent a proper connection.

2. Reset the Pen:

  • Some styluses have a reset function. Try pressing and holding any available buttons on the pen for about 10-15 seconds to see if it resets. Refer to the pen's manual for specific instructions.

3. Test on Another Device:

  • If possible, try connecting and charging the pen with another compatible HP device to see if it behaves the same way. This can help confirm whether the issue is with the pen or the original laptop.

4. Update Firmware (if applicable) Or Drivers:

  • Check HP Support for any firmware updates for the pen. Some pens can be updated via Bluetooth connection to the laptop, which could resolve charging issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
