We got an adapter and it does not work. We have an "Acer S241HL BMID 24" Widescreen Monitor" connecting to a "Newest Premium HP 15.6'' Touchscreen HD SVA WLED-backlit Display Laptop PC, Intel i5-7200U 2.5GHz Processor, 8GB DDR4 SDRAM, 2TB HDD, HDMI, Bluetooth" laptop and error says "input not supported". The monitor has a VGA plug for input and the laptop has a HDMI output jack. Can you help or do you know a product that will work?

From HDMI (digital) to VGA (analog) you need a proper converter. Please try (or similar):
Other option is to buy a new monitor with HDMI port, less headache. Monitors are now cheaper than you thought.
Regards.
