Hi @Vestypesty,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Cleaning the Printhead in HP Smart Tank 571 Printers!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If you are experiencing issues with clogged ink, such as with the blue (cyan) and yellow ink in your HP Smart Tank 571 printer, you can perform a printhead cleaning to improve the print quality. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to clean the printhead using either the HP Smart app or the printer control panel.

Cleaning the Printhead using HP Smart App

Load Paper: Load plain white paper into the tray.

Open HP Smart App: Open the HP Smart app on your device and select your printer.

Access Tools: Navigate to the 'Tools' section and select 'Print Quality Tools'.

Select Cleaning Option: Choose 'Clean Printhead' or 'Clean'.

  • The printer will display a cleaning message and a test page will print.

Examine Test Page: Check the print quality on the test page.

  • If acceptable, the process is complete.
  • If not, follow the prompts in the app for additional cleaning levels, which are more thorough.

Cleaning the Printhead using Control Panel

Level 1 Cleaning:

  1. Power On: Ensure the printer is powered on.
  2. Hold Power Button: Press and hold the Power button for more than 4 seconds.
  3. Press Color Copy Button: Press the Color Copy button twice.
  4. Release Power Button: Release the Power button. The printhead cleaning will begin.

Level 2 Cleaning:

  1. Repeat Level 1 Steps: Press and hold the Power button for 4 seconds.
  2. Additional Button Presses: Press the Color Copy button twice and the Black Copy button once.
  3. Release Power Button: Release and allow the cleaning to proceed.

Level 3 Cleaning:

  1. Repeat Level 1 Steps: Press and hold the Power button again for 4 seconds.
  2. Press Buttons: Press the Color Copy button twice and the Black Copy button twice.
  3. Release Power: The cleaning will begin; review the print quality after it completes.

It is recommended to wait at least 30 minutes before repeating another printhead cleaning cycle if needed. If these steps do not resolve your issue, check for any other maintenance options or consult with HP support.

Additional Recommendations

  • Ensure that ink tanks are adequately filled to prevent air from entering and drying printheads.
  • Regular maintenance helps in keeping printheads clear and functioning well.

I hope this helps.
