I have the Intel 620 video/gaphics chip in my HP pavilion 14'' Laptop. Can I purchase a normal external HD Monitor and link it up with the HD Output port on my Laptop?
The current maximum resolution I have on my laptop is 1980x1080.
The aim is to have a bigger screen monitor at my office, as the 14'' laptop screen is a bit too small and I have to constantly ''zoom in''....so please help with any advice.

You should be able to do that, but the default will be to force the external monitor to the same resolution as your laptop screen because the default is to mirror the laptop screen.
To change this, right-click the little screen icon on the lower-right portion of the taskbar. This will open the Notifications side-bar.
Click on the tile named Project. You should see four options: PC screen only, Duplicate, Extend, Second screen only. Since you want to use the second display as an independent screen, click on Extend. This will also allow you to change the screen resolution of the second screen to match the best resolution of the display device.
If you don't see the options for the second display in Project, then Win10 does not recognize that device as a display screen -- and there is nothing more you can do about that.
