Troubleshooting black screen issues on HP Notebooks: Click here to view the instructions!
HP Recommended

I'm not sure how to post a general comment on this topic, bu will do it here...

I only have run in to the problem when I play one game (which is embarrasing to admit!), but it's Candy Crush Soda.  I found today that if I re-size the zoom on the page, it unlocks the screen so I can continue in the game.  Otherwise, the game locks up and I have to refresh the page.

Just thought I'd add this, for what it's worth.

Obviously I am not a techie, and I'm not interested in trying all the fixes that have been mentioned because I don't want to get in over my head.  My solution works for me now, and I'll just hope that HP, Intel, MS and whoever else is involved will get this figured out and it will be fixed with an update!

After trying a few of the driver patches that were supposedly for my CPU and OS version I noticed the WIFI would turn off and on randomly. I ended up downloading an updated WIFI driver and so far it seem to be working. My thought is one of the driver updates for the graphics issue stepped on the WIFI dll's somewhere.  I would suggest downloading a copy of the drivers currently on the PC to insure you can revert back if needed. Of course losing the WIFI can cause a big headache also.

I ended up using a different PC tp get the WIFI driver

I thought I would report back after using Beta Driver 15.40.18.4380 for a while.

I have not experienced the problem where the driver stopped responding after using  this driver for 5 days.

However this beta driver IS NOT STABLE and I have experienced other

graphic issues when using the browser,  to include - black spots in the

web page blocking out the display and freezing of the web page.

Bad news is beta is not stable and I DO NOT RECOMMEND its use.

Good news is that this beta driver 'may' be solving our main problem.

I look forward to their releasing a production version of this beta driver

Following up -

I admit that I didn't have high expectations for the LFLFM recommendation of the following driver -

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25489/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-15-40-4th-Gen-

With that said, I am happy to report that after four days [five hours] on my bicycle training [see my previous posts for details] for the upcoming cycling season - I have not yet experienced any of the issues that brought me to this listing -

Unlike others that have posted recently, I have also not experienced problems with video streaming, black spots, etc... or with other online, and software programs.

I am still not comforted knowing that I am using a driver that does not [in the view of HP] support my laptop's specifications, that being the 2.40GHz - I still look forward to assurances from HP regarding this concern.

Will continue to follow this forum, and report.

Best -

I've been using this driver since two days before I posted the answer here, so far I haven't seen any problems whatsoever; everything is working perfectly, including my Google Chrome )used to crash the driver every couple of hours) and my son's "My talking tom" game (it used to crash the original driver every time after 5 seconds of starting up the minigames and this made the game unplayable - he was not pleased).

I haven't tried any drivers other than the one that I posted (had it not worked with that driver, I wouldn't have tried others and I do recommend against trying several different drivers; if it didn't work with what Intel says is the latest *stable* version, then rollback to the original and wait for the next version from intel - and make sure that you are using the correct driver for your CPU model - I wouln't worry so much about the speed being listed, as long as the correct model is listed; again, I didn't even check if my speed (also 2.4 here) was listed and apparently it wasn't; but it works perfectly.

Anyway, good luck to everyone!

I think the posted driver would work in some configurations on some PC's but sadly it is not a complete fix for everybody. As I said the computer company's should be pushing Intel and Microsoft to fix their poor excuse for a software release.

Over on the Intel site it's the same, no final fix.

The scary part is if Microsoft releases any Win10 updates will it bring back the problem  for those who it did work for.

I'm also running into this exact same issue, albeit with an HP Omen Notebook. My saving grace was that because this laptop comes with a dedicated GPU I can set a preference to universally use the nvidia gpu rather than the intel and since then no more crashes.

However I find it hard to believe that after paying almost $2k for this machine that was built for gaming HP is really slow to push updates for certain drivers, if at all. To add more salt to the wound, the screen display is also phyiscally falling off of its enclosure. I had to tape it into place.

I really hope HP releases an updated intel driver soon enough, otherwise this will be the last HP hardware I will ever buy.

Cost of the computer does not indicate the lack or presents of the problem. Mine is a Zbook and I have been plagued with the problem.  I could live with the issue if i spent 3 or 4 hundred but 2600 shows me the companies have a big problem and are clueless or really dont care..

this link is the Intel blog and the frustration is high there also.
