HP Envy
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello and good evening every one,

a colleague wanted to buy a computer and I suggested HP for him so he decided to buy HP Envy. The device comes with two display adapters one of which is the Intel HD 520.

A strage error is happening. When trying to open some websites using MS Edge or IE like the website of the Bank of America, the display driver crashes and shows a notication that the "Intel Drivers for Windows 8(R) crashed".

I looked for the most recent drivers here on the website and updated to the latest rev. D driver, restarted the computer and tried to reproduce the problem. The same problem occured. He then returned the computer and they told him it might be a hardware issue so they gave him a new out of the box laptop.

But the exact same problem has occured. Trying out Google Chrome has succeeded and the problem did not occur.

What is the problem then guys?

Thank you very much!

Hi @Tweetatoo,

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!

I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP ENVY Notebook and issues with Secure sites and Microsoft Edge. Here is a link to troubleshoot Microsoft Edge.

You could  try using the Windows Update Troubleshooting tool to fix any updates that have not come through for Windows 10.  Please restart the Notebook twice to make sure all update have been completed!

In the Device Manager, click the arrow next to Display Adaptors to expand that category
Right-click on Graphics and select Update Driver Software if more than 1 Graphics adapter do 1 at a time.
Choose the option to Search Automatically for Updated Driver Software.
The Notebook should find and automatically install the updated driver
After the installation is complete, restart your Notebook.
Please let me know how this goes.

Thanks.

Please click “Accept as Solution ” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.

Hi,

I did that even before coming to this forum, although it updated the 520 drivers the problem is unchanged. Never had such problems on a brand new new computer.

Shameful.

Hello Mrstenter,

stop dealing with customers as noobs! All these methods and even more advanced solution were considered and still no luck.

Review your systems before selling them and for gods sake do not repeat the issue of your display cards 8 years ago where you replaced tons of motherboards because of flaw design. 8 years we have been persuaded not to buy HP for such a reason and we both bought Toshiba. Yet when we decided to give it a try and think that HP has regained control, we thought we could buy this machine to be again disappointed that the problem is also in graphics card, either software or even hardware issue.

Anyways, we returned the laptop and bought Toshiba Satellite.

Thanks for your help anyways.

FYI - EXACT same issue here. Brand spanking new Spectre x360, CTO version with the Intel 520 graphics. Had it two weeks. Display driver crashes CONSTANTLY. It is easiest to replicate if you are web surfing and you have graphical intensive pages with a lot of ads or flash animations. Came with windows10 RTM.  I'm in the inside preview program and am currently updated to Windows10 build 10576, no change. This issue seems to be specific to the display driver.

That being said, Intel has just released a newer 520 display driver build, which I tried to install but HP has made some OEM tweaks that prevent it from being installed. So I hope someone at HP is working on packaging this new driver into an HP release.

After a little testing I can confirm as suggested elsewhere that using Chrome instead of Firefox makes the problem not present itself any longer...still...

Hi Mate,

I recently bought a dell insipiron 5559 with intel 520 card (processor  i5 6200u) and have experienced exactly the same.

I updated all the the drivers through the utility device. Then went through device manager and did the same. The only time I didn't experience this error is when I was reverted to using windows basic display drive. Obviously that's not a solution as the intel 520 is what's required for optimum performance.

The error occurs with windows edge and IE 11 (therefore it seems to be a windows problem, more specifically windows 10). I'll try google chrome and hopefully there won't be the same issue.

I'm a complete novice with IT issues and just get information via the net.

I'm assuming this error relates to windows 10 not being compatible with this adapter currently or intels lack of appropriate driver (despite this being a generation 6 integrated graphics card!) . As you've already had a replacement and still have the same issue, i'm hoping it's not the actual laptop but rather a case of waiting for an appropriate fix to be issued by windows or intel so it's compatible with windows 10.

I had the problem constantly in internet explorer.

Updated the Intel drivers to build 4300. I couldn't get their exe installer to work, so I had to download the zipped version from Intel's site.

This seems to have greatly increased stability. I've only had one driver crash since. That's a step in the right direction.
