SPECTRE X360 15-BL012DX
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a two month old x360 15 whose trackpad, two finger scrolling of the screen is uneven and often is not propotional to the movement of my fingers and sometimes just stops.  I have a two year old x360 13 whose two-finger scrolling is silky smooth.  It seems worse when using Microsoft Edge.  IE and chrome are much better but noticable.  I also see it on other programs.  I have deleted and reinstalled the trackpad driver downloading the one from HP.  I'm so satisfied with my old computer that it is just agravating to use the new one.  Love it otherwise.

A very warm welcome to the HP community. A very good day to you.

I came across your post and would like to help. I understand that you have an HP Spectre x360 - 15-bl012dx laptop and whose trackpad, two finger scrolling of the screen is uneven and often is not proportional to the movement of your fingers and sometimes just stops. You have tried using multiple applications and the issue persists. You have also reinstalled the trackpad drivers and that did not fix it either. You've done a remarkable job performing the steps.

To provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Does the touchpad work fine otherwise when you're not doing the two finger scrolling?

Meanwhile, I suggest you to review the steps from this link. These steps help to fix touchpad related issues.

NOTE: Please ignore the steps mentioned under "Disabling the TouchPad". You may refer to the steps for "Opening the Touchpad Settings", "Scrolling using a ClickPad", "Navigating using multi-finger gestures" and "Adjusting TouchPad or ClickPad pointing sensitivities."

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Keep me posted on how it goes. All the best! 🙂

Part way.  I greatly improved the two finger scrolling by making some settings adjustments. It still does not perform nearly as well as my two year old x360 13 inch.  To answer your question, all other touchpad functions seem okay.  Here's my observation.  The worst offender seems to be Microsoft Edge on pages with lots of links, eg Google News where nearly every line is a link, and the very worst offender seems to be Edge's new tab page where every picture is a link.  The jerkiness seems to be associated with the curser changing state from pointer to arrow to locator.  Again, no problem on Internet Explorer and little problem with Chrome.

Another observation is that touchscreen scrolling and using the slider on the right side of the screen are fine.  For your information, the 13 inch and the 15 inch both have synaptics touchpads but different versions and different drivers. Both computers are using Windows 10 and are up to date.   I just think that this brand new computer ought to be better, ought to be at least as good as my older computer!

I appreciate your response!

You're welcome. 🙂

What I can figure out that the touchpad hardware is all good because it works fine otherwise.

You mat try to perform some more updates using the HP Support Assistant program.

Hope this helps. Let me know what happens. Cheers!

Went to Best Buy on Saturday and ran into an HP rep.  We spent some time finetuning the touchpad with some improvement, BUT here's what we found: The implementation of the driver on my old 13 inch x360 inactivates the curser during two finger scrolling and there is absolutely no jerking or hesitation even using Edge as the browser.  HP, YOU NEED TO CHANGE THIS.

Again, some websites are almost unusable with two finger scrolling on Edge.  I've now found that yahoo.com is maybe the worst actor, jerking and hesitating as the curser crosses links and pictures.  It scrolls flawlessly with the older 13 inch x360.  Again, in the implementation of the newer touchpad, the curser is continually changing status (pointer, selecter, curser) as it passes over links and pictures, hesitatiing or freezing as it goes.  Not good.

Other scrolling functions, edge scrolling, scrolling with left click and slider (which takes the curser off the main screen) seem to work okay.

Thanks for listening.  This really needs to change.

I really appreciate you taking your valuable time to troubleshoot.

I need some time to research further on this issue. It may take a couple of days for me to reply until we find a solution.

Cheers!

In the interim, could you try to uninstall the Google Chrome browser and then reinstall it and check if that helps?

Keep me posted. Cheers!

I'm consumed this weekend, but to let you know, I did not install Chrome until last weekend so the HP rep and I could compare with Edge and I.E.

So does it mean that you uninstalled the Chrome browser and reinstalled it and the issue still persists?

Sorry, no. I didn't have time to play with it and am now on vacation for five days without the computer. What I meant to say was that the problem existed long before I ever installed Chrome, and did so only a week ago at the request of the HP rep at Best Buy in order to compare scrolling on Chrome to Edge and I.E.  I'll have my computer again on Saturday. That's for the persistence.
