ENVY x360 15m-cp0012dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

As it seems I'm not the only person to have encountered this issue with ENVY notebooks I want to ensure that this is actually addressed on an HP forum and not just Reddit, etc.

Upon performing a clean install on my laptop (Windows 10 Pro x64) I discovered shortly after that my displays "Freesync" feature was not enabled. I have already ensured latest BIOS, latest Display Drivers, Latest Chipset Drivers and all Windows updates. The problem comes from Windows installing the monitor as "Generic PNP Display". While the touch features still work the "Freesync" feature does NOT. There is no listing for the monitor driver anywhere on the support page and there seems to be no clear way to determine what the monitor panel model is so that a driver can be located. I find this to be a major fault on the part of HP who should be aware that situations like this will occur and still regardless of their size and reputation have failed to account for something so simple.

As someone who has worked in IT for over 20 years, I would think that, as a tech product company, it would only make sense to provide all NECESSARY drivers for a product that is provided. I'm not the first person with this problem and unless something is done I will likely not be the last. And even though my product warranty is expired, this is not a means for tech support, it is a request to a driver that should have ALREADY BEEN MADE ACCESSIBLE.

All that having been said, if a driver could be provided or if someone could point me to where I might find the required driver it would be greatly appreciated.

@Spyder-Tech Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that you are looking for monitor drivers for HP ENVY x360 15m-cp0012dx.

Do not worry. I will help you in this regard.

Please download the intel driver support assistant it will check for the correct drivers.

Freesync can be got back by using the Radeon graphics driver.

Do you people even understand the hardware you're offering support for, the included PIC was for verification but shouldn't have even been necessary as it's an AMD SYSTEM. Get your heads out of where the sun dont shine and give real support to people.

Furthermore, Freesync CANNOT be enabled by installing the radeon driver as it requires the monitor driver to be able to function.

Beyond all this you don't even answer the question that people ask half the time as was proven in the following post...

A post which details a question that I personally would like to know the answer to. Or, ideally you would release a bios update that would allow the user to dedicate a specified amount of memory to VRAM in increments of 1GB, 2GB and 4GB respectively as these amounts arent unreasonable even with the stock 8GB RAM. Quit trying to be smarter than your customers and listen to what they really want.

I understand your concerns.

According to the screenshot, it will not support Freesync for your model.

Regrading the increasing the VRAM to 1GB. It is not possible to increase.

You may contact our phone support and check.

Here is how you can get in touch with phone support.

1)Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/

2)Select the product type.

3)Enter the serial number of your device or select let HP detect your product option.

4)Select the country from the drop-down.

Clearly Freesync isn't working else i wouldn't be complaining. The reason it's not working is because i need the proper driver for my display (Monitor) since after reinstalling windows it only installs the "Generic PnP Monitor"

Freesync was a supported "WORKING" feature before reinstalling windows. The Monitor Driver is the issue here. There's even a full guide workaround to get this to work correctly but as it is not the correct way may result in unwanted bugs which i would rather avoid. Again, to be as clear as i can, this is an issue of a missing "MONITOR DRIVER", NOT A GRAPHICS DRIVER.

As far as the  VRAM allocation goes, being able to specify an amount in BIOS was EXTREMELY common for older systems that had integrated graphics. I personally had a system that would allow me to do this and it also had an AMI BIOS, it's a matter of coding to allow the line to be shown and set in BIOS, something that should have been available with the initial release of the BIOS. It's not rocket science, it's something that's been done before many times and is still available on other systems i'm sure.
